1st Gen engine swap into 2nd Gen truck
I've searched and searched, with no success . . .
Can someone please point me to a link if one exists?
Anyway, I have a 95 truck with sick engine and a 93 with a healthy engine, so I want to drop the 93 engine into the 95 engine bay. What would be the issues that I will encounter and need to resolve? I can see there a few engine component differences between the two engines. Also, are the PCM differences significant?
Or would you do it the other way around - swap the 95 tranny/tcase, front axle into the 93??? Would it be simpler to relocate the 93 tranny cross member and shorten the driveshaft to accomodate the 95 parts?

Yes, both trucks are autos, I want to use not only the 47RH tranny (the main purpose) from the 95 but the rest of the drivetrain (transfer case, shifter, driverside drop front axle, etc). But I'm thinking there may be more emmissions sensor connections (electric or otherwise) to the 95 and if I replace it with a 93, then what will I do with those connections?
Would it just be simpler to do it the other way around - swap the 95 tranny/tcase, front axle into the 93??? Would it be simpler to relocate the 93 tranny cross member and shorten the driveshaft to accomodate the 95 parts?

The '93 engine will work in the '95 but all the stuff on the bad engine needs to be put on the '93 like the turbo, fan, alt,ac comp, etc. The lock up and od i believe can be controlled by a switch. ive seen it done with a 5spd truck but not an auto. I forgot to mention that maybe the starter and adapter plate may need to be changed too.

If the tranny is good on the 95 and the two belhousings are different (I believe they are) you can swap the adapter plates from each other and everything else should be good. Block is basically the same I beleive, just have to work with the fuel line/electrical stuff (shut off solenoid, intake air temp sensor, engine speed sensor may be the same?). I'd say putting the VE pumped motor in the 95 would be a lot easier.
Just curious, whats wrong with the 95 motor?

That's covered in another thread "Engine damage assessment". In short it overheated during a long distance trip which caused severe damage.
