1st gen block

What differences are there in 1st and 2nd gen blocks? I know top rings are different and I think I heard that the 2nd gen blocks are threaded in farther for the motor mounts. What is the difference in the heads? I think the motor is a 91, but don't know if it was intercooled or not.

The reason I ask is I am looking for a good short/longblock to stick in my truck and a friend has this motor from a wrecked truck that I can pick up for the right price. I figured if I could get a good short/longblock and switch everything over from my engine I could be set for a little less $$$. The catch is: the motor was thrown from the truck during the wreck. It broke the tranny off during its flight. Without putting it on a stand and starting it up, is there any way to check it. The only damage that I could see was a broken valve cover, everything else looked to be in good shape.

On Edit* According to Dodgeram.org, in 94 they changed piston rings from 14mm to 8mm from top of piston to reduce dead space and cut, on 215 hp engines they switched back to 14 mm from top of piston.
