1995 100,000 mile's Time for a clutch ?

Need some advice,I have a 1995 3500 with 100,000 miles . I use the truck to pull a 40ft enclosed trailer ,weight around 12,000. I think I am getting to the point where the clutch is going to have to be replaced. I would like to do the repair in my shop at home. Can the shifter be removed with out a special tool ? The Diesel is all stock . I see there are complete hyd. kits and complete clutch sets. Can you share your experance with these?

Thank You

It does not take anything special tools to remove the shifter. I did mine and replaced the clutch at 83,000. To much right foot. The clutch I have now is ok but I would not go with a full faramic for pulling a trailer. The thing is a little grabby.

Depending on your driving the clutch might have quite a few more miles on it.
If you're mostly highway, not too much more power above stock and easy on the accelerator you'll have very little slippage = clutch wear.

Is there a way to inspect the clutch with out pulling it all apart? When I am not pulling and push the clutch pedal down about 2" it starts to slip. ?
