My experience with CTDs is that the cooling system is so large it doesn't matter what temp the stat is, as soon as it opens the coolant temp will drop way low then climb again.
In other words there is an average temperature reached that stays the same no matter what the stat temp is.

First time I've heard of changing the stat for your reason, most times folks are trying to overcome the normal cycling of the coolant temp. It doesn't work.

Blocking the radiator would probably result more in what you're after than changing the stat. Remember to leave a 6-8" hole in the middle of the cardboard or whatever you use and to cover the radiator all the way to the top, bottom and sides.
Be careful using the A/C with the radiator blocked, system can get too hot and over pressurize. The A/C is on when the system is in the defrost mode. Might what to consider this easy modification.

Removing the fan and using a winter front will result in the same effect as cardboard.
