12 valve stalling at startup

My 12 valve has been sitting for a few months but I just got it back on the road today. I had some steering components I needed to install. A few months back right before I parked it my water pump went out and the truck overheated. I should have parked it on the side of the road and had it towed but I limped it home with the temp gauage pegged…. actually as long as I kept rolling on the highway it was just EXTREMELY hot but not pegged. I replaced the pump and the last few times I drove it it would stall when I would start it. If I gavce it throttle it was fine. Once cranked it ran fine. Well now that I have it back on the road I’m reminded of the issue and it’s driving me nuts.

Any idea what could be causing the stall at start? It will rev then die. I’ll restart it and it will rev and stall two or three times until it keeps running and is fine. Any thoughts??? Thanks for any help on this

Don’t get angry at me. I am not the one that drove your truck without a working water pump in it while watching the temp gauge that was pegged.

I have taken the time to answer MANY of your questions over the years. I am not sure what sort of help you are looking for..

If I told you it will all be fine, just give it a warm cup of hot chocolate with the mini marshmallows in it…Is that better?

At this point drive it while it still runs…what else can I recommend?

No you just wanted to be cute…. you needed a little Karen dopamine hit…. and I don’t know that you ever provided real info in the past… The ORIGINAL post was for anyone with productive input not a cute D.S. comment. Maybe….. a vacuum line disconnect? Fuel solenoid burned out, vapor lock…..? Anybody looking at this thread knows the type of dude you are and the type of comment “ Lucky it’s not seized up” is…. How about in the future you just pass over and don’t “answer’ my threads?

You got it.
I am sure the FSS is the problem after overheating the motor, rather than the very likely internal damage it caused..
Good luck

I just put 200 miles on it today at an average of 65 -70 mph… it ran like a champ. The occasional start stall when it’s hot seems to be a minor issue. If I start it with some throttle it never does it. It’s a Cummins! Cheers

I think every P-pumped 12 valve I have ever owned that still had the starting instructions on the driver side visor said to give them 1/4 throttle if I remember correctly.
