12 valve "53" block

Im looking at a 1998 12 valve, Its a dreaded "53" block! The seller swears that Its only the 24 valve blocks that had the cracking issues??? I really dont want another "53" in the yard. Its a made in Mexico truck.
thanks

someone correct me if I'm wrong... so far have not heard of any reports of 98 w/53 blocks crack. 99-2001 24valve seems to have other issues besides VP44

its the electronic injection pump on the 24 valve trucks. our mechanical pump is called the p7100 pump or "p-pump".

your 1st gen should have a rotary pump which is different from the p-pump on the 2nd gen 12 valves.

vp44 is the injector pump on the 1998.5-2002, 24 valve. They are not mechanical like the 12 valves engines have. They definitely do not last as long either.

there was a huge article on here with info on the 53 block. I printed it off to have to look at. It states in the info that an owner with a 12v code 53 block with a build date of 11-97 has had no problems with his block and regularly tows trailers in the Rocky Mountains. just type in code 53 block in a search but I wouldnt buy the truck personally

Well thats one that hasn't cracked. Chances of them cracking are slim, but there have been 12v's that have cracked.
