Towing your 4wd truck with the transfer case in neutral does NOT override the fact that the transfer case bearings will still be turning without lubrication if the engine isnt running. This is why the manual also clearly states that if you tow your truck with the rear tires on the ground, the driveshaft must be disconnected.

The older type transfer cases didnt have this problem and yes, you could tow your truck simply be putting the transfer case in neutral.
Run the engine, put trans in 3rd or 5th, place transfer case in neutral. And the tail swing of the implement isnt that big of a deal. The biggest problem we had was when my step-dad forgot the 69 GMC was back there and turned to sharp into the drive, put the pickers into the RF fender. Also flat towed my 91.5 W250 back to Indiana from Kansas with one of these tow bars.

Running the engine to run the transmission to run the transfer case.....kinda sounds like it will drive on its own.

Except the loose nut behind the steering wheel is missing. He's on the tractor.

We had an old 78 powerwagon that wouldnt flat tow right unless the engine was running. Other than the old CJ2A, it was the only other 4X4 we would flat tow.
