Flat towing a Jeep with Slide-In camper
Flat towing a Jeep with Slide-In camper
I have a Lance 11'6" camper setting up to be put in the back of my 2004.5 DRW 3500 with tow package. I'm also going to be flat towing a 2000 Jeep Wrangler.
So my question is can I just build the 48" extension that I need out of some 2.5" square tubing and a 2" piece on the truck end to go into the reciever? When you flat tow you have nearly 0 lbs of tongue weight. The Jeep itself only weighs about 4500lbs.
In the future I'm going to go with a Reese Titan but I really don't have the time to order and install it along with getting the truck/camper setup and get the Jeep ready to go.

I once make up a solid 2 1/2" bar 48" long with a Titan class 5 to do the same thing but with an enclosed car hauling trailer and a weight distributing hitch and all is fine, but now I do the same thing with a super-hitch but they use 2 small chains to go from the ball to the hitch at a 45* angle. If I were you, I would put some chains on it because when you go around a corner, there is a lot of leverage pulling on the 4ft bar, going straight there is none. Jim
Should be fine, that is how Super-Hitch does theirs. I tow a Toyota Corolla behind my 11 ft Lance and when you make a sharp turn there is alot of leverage on that 4ft bar so chains with turnbuckles will really help. Jim
