Need help getting rid of a code

Engine runs fine but I keep getting a 0253 code. I've ran for a couple hundred miles with the comp box off and still get it. I've read what the code means and researched it but there isn't much really any info out there for fixing the issue that causes this code. I'm getting concerned now because I'm making a four thousand mile round trip in about a month. Thanks in advance for any input.

They usually drop out after about 30-50 starts IIRC. That is if they quit getting triggered...

What is 0253?

The OBDII system will usually clear any unwarranted code after a few cycles of the key under normal driving conditions. Meaning.....there are parameters the system uses so you cant just turn the truck on and off a few times and expect the code to go away. Like the engine has to reach normal running temps.

But as for the code:

DTC P0253: FUEL INJECTION PUMP FUEL VALVE OPEN CIRCUIT (DIESEL)

Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using scan tool, read DTCs. If DTC SPECIFIC GOOD TRIP
COUNTER displayed count is "0", go to step 4). If DTC SPECIFIC GOOD TRIP COUNTER count is
not "0", go to next step.
2. Turn ignition off. Visually inspect related connectors and wiring harness for damage. Repair connectors
and wiring harness as necessary. Perform TEST VER-5A (DIESEL). If connectors and wiring harness are
okay, go to next step.
3. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using scan tool, read and record FREEZE FRAME data. Road test
vehicle under conditions in FREEZE FRAME data. Using scan tool, monitor display while wiggling
related connectors and wiring harness. If DTC SPECIFIC GOOD TRIP COUNTER displayed count
changes to "0", go to next step. If DTC SPECIFIC GOOD TRIP COUNTER displayed count does not
change to "0", test is complete.
4. Ensure ignition is on, with engine off. Using scan tool, read DTCs. If DTC P0215: FUEL INJECTION
PUMP CONTROL CIRCUIT is displayed, perform DTC P0215: FUEL INJECTION PUMP CONTROL
CIRCUIT test. If DTC is not present, go to next step.
5. Turn ignition off. Using a voltmeter, check voltage across battery terminals. If voltage is 12 volts or
more, go to next step. If voltage is less than 12 volts, repair or replace battery as necessary. Perform
TEST VER-5A (DIESEL).
6. Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect Fuel Pump Control Module (FPCM) connector. See Fig. 41 . Clean
and/or repair connector as necessary. Using a 12-volt test light connected to battery voltage, probe FPCM
connector, ground circuit (Black/Tan wire). If test light illuminates brightly, go to next step. If test light
does not illuminate brightly, repair open or high resistance in ground circuit. Perform TEST VER-5A
(DIESEL).
7. Ensure ignition is off. Ensure FPCM connector is still disconnected. Turn ignition on, with engine off.
Using 12-volt test light connected to ground, probe FPCM connector, fuel injection pump relay output
circuit (Red/Light Green wire). If test light illuminates brightly, go to next step. If test light does not
illuminate brightly, repair open or high resistance in fuel pump relay output circuit. Perform TEST VER-
5A (DIESEL).
8. Perform starter draw test. Replace starter if necessary. Perform TEST VER-5A (DIESEL). If starter is
okay, use a voltmeter to check voltage across battery terminals while cranking engine. If voltage is 8 volts
or more, go to next step. If voltage is less than 8 volts, recharge or replace battery as necessary. Perform
TEST VER-5A (DIESEL).
9. At this time, fuel injection pump is assumed to be defective. Replace fuel injection pump. Perform TEST
VER-5A (DIESEL).
