Fuel level sender

Looking for a fuel level sender for my 1991 non IC, looked around for a bit and it looks no one has the sender for the diesel. I did however find a user on here that got a gasser fuel pump module my accident and installed that but it was on a 1992. I was wondering if I could do the same and just gut the module, add a straw and be on my way?

Yes you can, are your tubes rotted or is there some other issue?

Gauge is on the fritz, empty is half tank, fill it up and the needle goes nuts. Figured I'd throw the whole thing in instead of just a rheostat since its 25 years old.

Were there any changes in fuel tank senders from 89 to 93? The pictures I find on here show a plastic unit.

Mine has been jicky for years and I am tired of using my trip odometer as a gas gauge. I need to find an answer also.

I don't have an 89 parts book, but the 90-93 factory parts book shows the 90 as a different module than 91-93. 1990 is a drop in, then a gasket and what looks like a band clamp. 91-93 is the plastic screw nut like the later units.

In case you do decide to just replace the level unit, it is part number 52004638 and is the same for gas or diesel. It is different than the one for 91-93 as well.

Looks like the online price is 75-80 bucks.....

Would be very helpful if you did.

Thanks for the replies. I got it up on the lift yesterday and checked it out. My tank has the big plastic nut so it seems that was a true 91 changeover. Being that my truck is a 91 non intercooled it could have gone either way.

Both CTD trucks I've owned, I had to change out the sending units. Both my 92 and 93 had the same sender, and it cost me about $70 shipped from the dealer.

I find the clamp on style on the '89 and '90 Cummins trucks.
The '91 and up have the screw on style.
