driveshaft questions
Is there a difference in drive shaft sizes on the first gens? i have 93 d250 with getrag single cab, and there was no drive shaft on the truck, so i bought a shaft out of a 92 d350 single cab with a getrag "the shaft is 77 inches" turns out it is about 4 inches to long. so i found another drive shaft out of a 91.5 d20 single cab auto, its the right lenghth but it is much bigger around then the other shaft... i miked the splines and it is 1.45 , so i cant find a carrier barring for it..... does anyone have an answer to the lenghth " like what lenghth shaft i should have for a 93 d250 single cab getrag" and where do i get the carrier bearing for it? all i can seem to find i 1.35 carrier bearings at autozone and oriellys .

I have a 92 d250 regular cab getrag. Two piece drive shaft, the front shaft is about 45.25" and the second is 28.25". that is center to center on the caps.
I remember having some trouble finding a center bearing but that was in an area with few choices for parts stores, seems as though I ended up going to carquest.

I have heard that 5' is the longest you should go on a single shaft, not sure on that though.
The other problem is I don't think there is a slip yolk on the back of the getrag, that is most likely what the two piece shaft is for. The auto transmissions must have a longer tail and have a built in slip yolk so thats probably why they can have a single shaft.
I can measure the diameter of the driveshafts on my trucks if that is any help for you.

If you haven't already bought the carrier bearing, I have P/N 6038 from Oreilly's and it works. Advance Auto has a bearing under the same number that they say is the same size, but I'm not 100% that it works.
If it helps, I have a 2wd '89 regular cab auto that has a big 2 piece drive shaft. Slip yoke in the middle with U-joints on both ends. The 727 has a bolted on yoke just like the D70

oh ok, and this is probably a really dumb question, but i have only ever replaced a carrier bearing on my 01 duramax, the shaft separates and the bearing slides rite off. so on the slip yoke style shaft for the dodge, how do i get the bearing off, cause just looking at it the splines seem bigger then the diameter of the carrier bearing?

I hope one of the more expirenced members will correct me if I'm wrong, but it's an interference fit and the carrier bearing is supposed to be pressed on and off. That's what I did with mine. If the two were the same size, they would slide back and forth

Mine is an extended cab with 4wd. The carrier bearing needed to be pressed off.
It was a PITA to get off, but relatively simple to install.
