verify that I have a 3k GSK
verify that I have a 3k GSK
My trucks previous owner told me that the GSK was installed, but he told me some other things that have turned out to not be exactly true also. The truck revs right to 3000 rpm and not a hair above. Are those stock springs? I don't want to break out the flashlights and long magnets just to find out..
Thanks in advance, as always..

No not under a load, it hits a hair over 2800 under load. 3000 rpm is in neutral, and it's not exactly fast to get there either. The engine has great power and torque, just no speed. While tuning my AFC, and pump timing, it sure would be nice to figure out what governor spring was in it. I'm currently running a 6 plate, boost elbow, BHAF, Goerend triple disc, and gauges. Timing is probably stock, I ordered the kit to reset timing to around 15 degrees. I have the shitty California P Pump, and am on the hunt for a used 215 pump. My goal is to tune the thing for all I can get with a stock HX35 turbo and slightly tweaked injectors.

Factory settings (right from the manual) are 3000rpm high idle no load and 2700 governed under load. What you're describing sounds exactly like my truck was when stock, and I have a 98 Cali (egr) 180 hp model. I think earlier, lower HP rated pumps started running out of steam a bit earlier with less timing and fuel overall.
With 3k RPM springs it starts slowing down around 2800, will go to 3200 under load though. Now I just run the 4k springs and use my eyes and ears to keep it from blowing up.

Yes it will depend on how the previous guy set them. Too loose and they won't rev high enough. Too tight and the throttle gets too touchy.
But for an automatic truck sounds kinda stock, but kind of strong if they are stock. You gotta watch the boost gauge to see what rpm the power fall-off happens at, not idle revving.

ya but he is reving it in neutral...my stock gv springs will do that but only 2600+ under full load
just put my stock 1995 to the floor in N, 3,000 on the nose
