For me it's sunflower seeds and a giant bingo container full of diet Mt. Dew. The minuite I stop eating the sunflower seeds I start to feel the pain! Mixing protine in helps combat the jitters.

Using a combination of AM Talk Radio (no music channels) Dozen or more Mountain Dews & M&M's with peanuts (no food) and Skoal, I managed to drive from Minneapolis MN to the AZ west coast in one straight shot. Talk about a sugar rush. Except for a 20 min nap somewhere in Texas which I forced myself to take I only stopped for fuel and leak breaks. I guess that is 1800+ miles according to MSN Maps. I think it was about 29 hours. Would I do it again? NEVER. Although I was wide awake the whole way and I felt I could go to LA if I wanted, your mind starts playing tricks on you and I think your reaction time goes way down in case you need to make an abrupt maneouver. I do think that AM Talk RAdio is far better than music for keeping you awake. I never listen to music on trips anymore and I like music quite a bit.

My longest is, I worked all day in Albuquerque, jumped on a plane to San Jose, met the (now X) brother-in-law, drove his newly aquired Buick Grand National from San Jose to Albuquerque in one shot. I was awake for 39 hours straight. Diet Mt. Dew and sunflower seeds!

It starting feeling like that let me tell you. I waited until the b-i-l was asleep and wrapped that baby out, turbo screaming with a very buried speedo! Hey, that was my price for helping him!

Back in the early 80's I had a 1975 Chevy LUV that I pulled the little 1.8L.4 banger and dropped in a turbocharged 231 CI Even Fire from a Grand National. I had a cam, turbo and intercooler from Kenne Bell, (His place is about 15 miles from me.) It was coupled to a built TH350 trans and a 9" 31 spline Ford rear end narrowed by Currie Enterprises, had 4:10 R&P and rear disc brakes.
The truck was a real sleeper with everything under the hood. The only give away was the 5 lug rear axles and of course the sound.
This was my work truck, I was a mechanic and I could pull a loaded Ford 8000 and the LN800 flatbeds at work.
The swap looked cleaner than a factory install, if you can see the way I do things.
Ever seen a Buick Grand National after Kenne Bell got through with it?
At his shop they had a 231 CI engine with twin turbo's putting out 1500 horsepower Man I wanted that engine...
Just wanted to brag..Jim

Yea, Kenne Bell built some screamin' Grand Nationals. I think some of his cars hold records in NHRA. Nice job on the Luv. I think there are quite a few of us refugee's from muscle car days. I had a '68 Hemi road runner that was cammed and stuffed with 12.5:1's that would pull the front wheels! I also had a '74 Cuda 360 that I swapped in a 383 that I hand cut the piston domes on, that car was like a Ninja!

Not sure if its been said yet but ice water on tired eyes will do wonders. Used to keep a jub of ice water & paper towels or a washcloth in the car with me. Works great. Your eyes can get road weary even if you've had enough sleep.
Have a safe trip.

I freebase on coffee, but sometimes it still doesn't help. I have found that chewing on something helps A LOT. Either pretzels or sunflower seeds work wonders.

Hi i'm new here and planning on buying a 2006 dodge cummins in a few months.
I have found that by avoiding eating carbs, like sugar, veggies, fruit, bread, etc, you will feel less tired.
If you can just eat meat or eggs, high protein stuff, you won't feel tired afterwards.
At least , that's what worked for me. I found that I could stay awake for long periods of time without feeling tired. This is basically an Atkins type diet, but it does seem to work.
good luck
