T/C lockup switch for the 12 valve
Since Iam in the process of upgrading my tranny Ive been thinking about adding a T/C lockup sw,even tho this tranny should hold the torque and power better with the upgrades, has anyone tryed to wire it to a floor mounted dimmer sw rather then a toggle sw on the dash....just seems ezer if its on the floor ??

Re:T/C lockup switch for the 12 valve
I think I've read some posts by guys that have used a dimmer switch on the floor...works OK..but you need to place it high enough or in a position where you wouldn't accidently actuate it. A better solution is a 3 position toggle on the left side of the steering column housing with a lock-up indicator LED light placed in a very visible location like the A pillar. 3 position toggle would be preferable because it would allow L/U like stock, or not allow L/U at all, or force L/U.
Just noticed you have a Transgo shift kit...how do you like it? Would you recommend it...don't have any issues with my stock auto yet...but it sure is a slush box! :'(

I think that the floor mount would be fine...just get a dimmer switch, and ground one side.
I used a dimmer switch for a Gear Vendors...worked great!
george

Hi guys, I would like to jump in here if I may---John, how would I go about wiring up a 3 way switch like you mentioned? I am always wishing I could control the L/U manually when pulling a trailer in the hilly terrain around here.

http://216.235.147.117/forums/showth...threadid=54464

See the above thread...BoldtsWagon explains how to install a "Goof Proof" 3 way mystery switch that incorporates a pressure switch to unlock the converter clutch if boost drops below the setpoint...eliminates the possibility of stopping with the TCC locked and killing the engine. Dennis Garret shows a pic of his installation of the switch on the left side of the steering shaft housing. Glad I could find this for you because I want to perform this BOMB too ;D

I usually only see 3 or 4psi on flat ground. Unless I'm not reading it correctly, his will unlock at 15psi (the vast majority of the time for me). I want my converter locked at freeway speeds.

What am I missing?

Tackett

Tackett, for normal road running you would use the lower position selection which allowed for normal lockup at lower boost. The pressure switch use during forced lockup is to prevent stalling the engine if forgetting to disengage lockup before coming to a stop.

Jerry

Re:T/C lockup switch for the 12 valve
I'm interested in this "goof-proof" pressure switch, as I know somewhere, sometime, I'll forget. I'm like the earlier post though, going down hill, the throttle will be pretty light, disengaging the TC, so any hill holding will be lost. Anyone with experience on this setup going downhill?

I like it so much that I never use the lower "factory" position. It likes to lock up at 1,00 or 1,500 RPM - which is not so good for my power level.

I drive unlocked, and lock it as soon as I'm at 60.

I forgot to unlock a few times when I first installed the switch, but you learn to deal with it really fast. I just don't think it's that big of a deal.

The good part is that I can keep it locked when I need to lift off the throttle for a bit - I hate the stock "unlock for any reason" setting.

Tackett
