Do I need gauges?

Hi folks. I recently bought an '06 Ram CTD with auto trans. It has no power-output mods and I have no plans to add any. With a stock engine, do I need the EGT and boost gauges? I would like to add a gauge to monitor the 48RE temps. I will be buying a 30' (+/-) fifth wheel in the near future. Thanks. Don

Yes you need gauges. If you get an Edge Insight, you can monitor everything (except EGT) through the OBDII port. Very painless install.

Yes you should get some gauges. I never had gauges untill I came to this site and read what these guys were saying. So I put in pyro, boost and trans temp. I have a smarty so it was the right thing to do,but I never relised I was shutting my truck down to soon in the past. Now I look at the pyro gauge and when it's 350 it's time to shut it off. Plus they look pretty cool in the truck. There's many ways you can install them. Pillar, column, over rear view mirror, in dash. What ever turns you on. And if you're going to haul a trailer it 's nice to see what the trans temp is. The cooler the trans temp the longer the trans will last you.

greatest investment ever for my truck. yeah it cost a little but you can save a lot in the end.

like overheated tranny or pulling that big trailer up a steep grade and throwing to much boost and end up blowing a head gasket. the list could go on and on

I would recommend them. Nice to know what's going on when towing heavy. Stock truck maybe not necessary but I bet it will make you much more comfortable towing a 5er. Pyro 1st priority imho.

With a stock truck you do not need gauges...............a tranny temp will show you how to tow to extend it's life.

Thanks for all the info guys! Now I just need to decide: all-in-one type monitor like the Edge Insight or Quad Scout; or 3 gauges on the A-pillar.....decisions, decisions... Don

i think if i could start over i would go with a insight or someting along the lines. if you ever plan to sell the truck it would be easy to yank out and be able to sell it or something.

i love my pillar mount but every once in awhile i get blind spots and cant see these crazy wyoming drivers coming.

just my 2 cents.....................
