I just noticed on my new truck that the sticker says manufacture date 3/09. How can I tell if it has the pcm that will or won't except a smarty?

 

Try and find somebody close with a Smarty and try it

 

buy a smarty and upload it. That problem is fixed. ME Version 16 but now they have ME version 17 out. don't be skeerd

 

That is great news for the post 03/09 guys. Those Smarty guys should announce such events here instead of it just leaking out.

So much for the locked ECM issue?

 

Check with MADS about the locked ECM issue. I think the work around is only for ECM's that have had the lock downloaded after the fact with the latest dealer flash. You will need to verify this and not take it for fact.

 

I dont think the problem is fixed. The new update is just for the new flash. I dont think anything else has changed.

 

it is not fixed yet. The latest software starting with 15 or 16 will warn you that the pcm is locked and cannot be updated. previous versions would just lock the pcm.

almost forgot, I believe there is a date on the pcm as well. There is a chance that your pcm was built before the 3/09 cut-off. But the safest way would probably be to check with smarty with one of the later software versions. Of course you do still have the option of a plug in module like the edge juice.

 

Where is the pcm located? Is the sticker usually visible or do I have to unbolt anything to see it? Thanks.
