WHEW!!! Home at last!!!

They say all good things must come to an end - - and our fantasy trip is now ended - - we are home. 4 1/2 months on the road with 3 1/2 of those in Alaska. Wow, it was great. Freezer full of salmon and halibut, lots of fabulous memories of gorgeous scenery, walking on glaciers, landing on glaciers, falling on glaciers, face to face with grizzlies - - and moose - - and caribou - - and wolves - - hey, you name it and it is probably in Alaska.

The specs:

Total miles covered: 15,800 miles
Total weight of truck and fiver: a little over 24,000 pounds
Driving conditions: the normal interstates getting to the border (usually at 65 to 70 mph), then the going got interesting - - lots of miles in fifth and fourth gear due to slower speeds, lots of mountain climbing, some solo in third and fourth maximum.
Average mileage: 12.1 mpg - - not bad considering the speeds, mountains, and the total weight.

The truck was flawless - - we had some frame problems with the fiver - - it was a factory recall - - it only cost me some time getting it fixed, but those things happen. All went well. We also had some damage getting off the marine ferry in Petersburg - - they didn't have the ramp set right for me and I dragged the tail messing up the jacks and tearing up the bumper. That will be covered by the ferry. Had a really good snow storm in Alberta near Jasper - - biggest flakes I have ever seen. Plows were out, cars in the ditch, motorcycles abandoned - - cars and trucks pulled over afraid to move forward. Fun.

Missed keeping up with all the "happenings" on DTR - - inet access was sporadic or non-existent. But, it was a fantastic trip and I would do it again in a heart beat. We covered just about every area available by road or by ferry and enjoyed every bit of it. It still is nice to be back home, but my shifty hand is starting to itch all ready - - let's see, how about a trip to Mexico in March? HMMM.

Welcome Back Bob!!!!
The questions about brake controllers just haven't been the same without ya'. And remember, after your "life if rough" picture you are not allowed to post any more pics. Just kidding, post away, always like to see pics of Alaska, Canada and wildlife. Speaking of wildlife and Canada, did you hook up with Scotty?

Hope you were out of harm's way (Hurricane Rita)

Who's Scotty??? Oh, you mean that little scrawny guy up there in Regina!!! You weren't referring to Scotty as "wildlife", were you???

Yeh, we hooked up. Spent some nice time with him and his bride - - really great meeting them after all the posts, pm's and emails. Of course the ladies were bored while we talked about the weather - - I mean trucks.

Welcome back Bob.....I guess.

It sounds like you had a great trip. Now all you have to worry about now is the canes.

By the way, did I tell you that I envy you?
