New Speakers installed.

I just installed Kicker 41DSC6934 6" x 9" 3-Way Speakers in my D250. They sound great!

The PO installed some Infinity Kappa's but they were toasty. The midrange and tweeter assembly on both were knocked off., and the foam surround on the woofer was crumbling. They tried some sort of epoxy on the foam surrounds...what a joke.

My only complaint has to do with the L shaped spring steel clips shipped with the speakers. If you try to bend it, it snaps in two. If you try to run the supplied screws through the threaded part, the threads on the screw gets shaved off.

Luckily the mounting clips from the Infinity's were still in good shape.

I was in a hurry, so no pics, sorry... Yes, they are in the door.

Make sure you have some extra door panel clips. I had some Dorman made for the ford stuff. Part number 961-080

Here is a small write up on replacing the door speakers. Since I have a regualr cab, with manual windows, here are the steps I took:

1. Remove door handle, window crank, and three screws, two lower mid panel and one next to the door handle.

2. Remove door panel using a panel tool if you have one.

3. Cut the plastic sheet to access the door innards. (mine was already cut since after market speakers were already installed)

4. Disconnect the speaker wire harness that is in the door.

5. Remove the 4 screws holding the speaker in place.

6. Remove speaker from the door.

Assembly is reverse. Make sure to tape closed the plastic sheet.

Notes: I needed more door panel clips. The after market speakers had wiring soldered to the speaker terminals. I went ahead and soldered up the wires to the new speaker terminals. Also, the window needs to rolled up when working with the speakers. When done, now is a good time to lube the moving parts of the window lift parts.

FWIW,

When I installed new speakers, they were a little deeper than the OEM units that were there. They still fit, sound great, and no real issue.

THE OEM speaker had a plastic "rain diverter" on the top of the speaker which was removable and I utilized on the new speaker. Since it was short of covering the speaker fully, it allowed rain to flow onto the backside of the speaker, down around the cage of the speaker itself, and wick water into the inner side of the door panel, running down the door surface, and onto the floor of the cab of the truck.

This issue happened each time it rained until I eventually wrapped the inner section of the door, and top of the speaker with a rubberized membrane which diverts the water to the bottom of the inside of the door and out the weep holes.

I have no "cab leaks" whatsoever since I had my truck resprayed. These "speaker leaks" were the only thing that was an issue, and I monitor my floor wetness by keeping the rubber mats loose and easily removed. Should water get under the mat, I don't want it to start to rot out my truck, as it has almost no chance of evaporation.

When I put in my old Jensen's, I used a piece of a garbage bag as a water deflector. The old rain shield wouldn't come close to fitting. I also glued a thin piece of neoprene to the inside of the door skin to cut down on the rattles those huge things would make.

The Kickers are as deep as the Infinity Kappa's they replaced. The plastic flap atually cover the speaker.

Guys I am looking to not only replace the door speakers in my 1992 Cummins Ram Charger (drivers door just blew today) but also the two along the wall behind the front seat. Does anyone know off hand if the back speakers in a truck/RC are also 6x9's? I would replace all 4 at the same time with these Kicker 6x9 used in the door to get a great sound throughout the interior of the RC. Thank you

The rear speakers in the trucks are 4x10's. The best you can do is a 2 way speaker with that size.

another thought, along with my kappa's, im running my rear two channels into 6 x 9 box speakers that add lots of ambiance powering bass to the seat, moveable to the outside with xtra wire when camping, infinity also has a super tweeter I added at the top of the windshield piller adding more definition to the separation. sounds xlnt....

Philip I believe my 1992 RC has a different size speaker behind the front seat on the side walls compared to a club cab speakers. I will have to pull one out and take a look to see if it will fit a 6x9 in it. I am not a radio person but would putting four 6x9 3-ways in make the sound weird? I notice some put 3" in front and 6x9's behind them.

I haven't had the rears out of a RC. I have no idea what they use.

The problem with our trucks is the door mounted speakers. Being installed low most of the sound goes into carpet or seats. The rears is where most of your sound comes from in a truck. Plus 6x9's aren't that good on base. I have a small self contained sub/ amp for extra base the 6x9's can do.
