Why do trucks have two trans codes in the glovebox?
I passed on one 03 truck I was looking at because the dealer said it showed DGA and also DG8 as the trans codes in the glovebox. I figured the guy was an idiot so I let that truck go. Now I have looked at an 04 closeby and in the glovebox is the same thing. Two lines that say trans and one line says DGA while the other says DG8? It doesn't give anymore info. Does anyone know exactly why there are two codes listed?? I'm pretty sure it is a 48RE..

one might be the code for the trans, and one for the transfer case ? on a thin limb here, but others will chime in..... I take it you are lookin in the nova area, what years ya interested in, and whats max price ? or distance to drive for it ??

My only guess is 03 and early 04 had two trans choices. 47re and 48re. In 03 the 47re had a 10.5 rear axle and was equipt mostly with the SO motor. However certain packages will give you the 11.5 axle with the 47re which is what you might be seeing. This changed with the 04.5 and the 48re was the only option.
Just out of curiosity, how long of a burnout will the taurus do? ( without using the ebrake)

Thanks for the links. Believe me, I have looked at every diesel truck within 300 miles of my house including each one of those. I have actually talked to a couple of those guys in the links. For the perfect truck at the right price I'll go a long ways.
Stay tuned.......

The sticker in the glove box shows which diffs you get. I can't understand why there would be two trans codes without some specification as to what is different about them...
No burnouts for the taurus. I'm just trying to drive it without breaking anything until I get another truck. I really like yours Air Grabber but it is a bit out of my price range. BUT, send me your VIN and I'll see how much the bank will loan me for it. That IS a beautiful truck.......

My '05 gets 15 City and maybe 21 highway on summer fuel with the wind at may back.
