What's the deal??

I thought the 2003 dodges came standard with a "coded" key that prevents truck theft? THIS is the thread on the other site... If they do come standard with a coded key how are they stealing the trucks?

Locks only keep the honest people away. If they want it they will take it. I was under the impression that only the trucks with the security system had the coded key. I don't beleive mine does. I only have the keyless entry ( and a kill switch that I installed that nobody would find...)

The sentry key engine immobilizer is an available option on the SLT. You have to order the "security group" to get it. It is standard on the Laramie. The Sentry key has grey plastic on it instead of the black.

Re:What's the deal??

Hmmm... I just checked again on the dodge.ca website and built my own 3500 st. The sentury key theft deterrent is listed as a standard option. Either this is a diffrence between Canadian and US trucks or the website is wrong. Any canadian owners able to tell if their truck does/doesn't have the sentury key?

Re:What's the deal??

The "coded" keys are not standard unless you specifically ordered the security group, or have a Laramie. The black keys are standard and don't have the chip, while the grey keys ($35 each) have the chip. The grey Sentry Key is electronically coded to prevent a thief from starting your vehicle, even if a correctly cut key is used.
