Unhappy Turbo Turn Up???

Hello, I was wondering if this is good on the engine. My buddy bought a 97 or 98 dodge with a cummins and he turned up the turbo himself to get more power. He said there was a screw or something that can be turned. He said I ought to do it to mine, but I want to put an Edge juice module on mine and I'm afraid it will throw everything out of wack! I heard that some years you can't turn the turbo up like he is talking about. I rode with him before he did it and after and could tell the difference a little, he has it maxed out and standing next to the truck, the exhaust fumes will make your eyes burn. It doesn't seem like a good idea. Sorry for the long post! Does anyone have any thought on this?

To to tell you the truth, from my knowledge, theres not really a way to "turn" the turbo up. You can plug your waste gate for some extra boost. And you can take your silencer ring out, but that olny makes more noice than power.

he might have turned up the fuel"97 or 98 should have a mechanical fuel pump with a screw" (where ours is electronic), which would get more boost and smoke. Not for sure just thinking out loud

I think your right 6wheeler I think my friend said he turned up the pump. So I guess that would give it more power right? But does it affect the engine in a "bad" way? Thanks for your comments...Brandon

Your friend must have a 12v, you can "turn up the pump" on a 12v...but your 2000 is a 24v engine, adding the edge box will essentially do the same thing to your truck. more fuel, boost, power, mileage.

I'm sure one of the 12valve guys will comment on that, but more fuel + more air + throw some timing in and = more power. Unless he is fueling more that the turbo will keep up with then he could be getting it to hot. Thats bad! He does have a pryo gauge, right. Like i said I'm still learning on the 12valve stuff, so I might be off. Kinda wish I had got a 12valver.

He doesn't have a pyro gauge or anything and the way he drives it'll be blown up before too long. He also has 2 quad axle dump trucks with the pump turned up to the max and they both have cummins motors so I guess that's why he turned his pickup up also. He did say the pickup is burning an ungodly amount of fuel now, so he just might turn it down, who knows. Thanks for all your comments!

There is no actual screw unless he is messing with the star screw or the aneroid on the back just for low end fueling, a plate or springs are the most common to mess with. I dont know why it would be hasing at idle though, only injectors or delivery valves would cause that. Plate springs and all included with the AFC only operate while hitting the go pedal.
