Turbo-Master sound?

What does it sound like when a Turbo-Master actuates the wastegate? I've been trying to adjust mine for the minumum boost necessary by watching for exhaust smoke under boost. No smoke, enough boost, right? I've been backing it off a turn every time I drive the truck, and this afternoon on the way home from work I was on the throttle pretty hard near the bottom of 5th, and I heard this sort of fluttering/chuffing/rattling noise, so I got out of the gas and it stopped. I thought it might be the Turbo-Master, so I put 2 turns back in and drove some more, can't get it to make the noise anymore. Was the noise I heard normal operation or is something screwed up?

Give Bill Heath a call at Turbo-Master, he can answer all your questions, and if you haven't talked to him yet, you will enjoy the opportunity.

Great Guy and he has some great ideas and knowledge of these trucks!

Might want a boost gauge on your truck to make sure you are not overboosting

Re:Turbo-Master sound?

It's definitely NOT the T-M, I replaced the spring with a deep socket and drove the truck. Bill at T-M suggested maybe a boost leak, but all the boots look and feel ok, and all the clamps are tight. Looked around for exhaust manifold leaks with a mirror and flashlight, couldn't find any soot. Anybody have any ideas? It's a fluttering/chuffing noise, not harsh enough to call a clatter. It will only happen in the middle of 4th and 5th gear under medium acceleration, WOT sounds normal.

The noise has been diagnosed to my satisfaction, see http://www.dodge-diesel.org/yabbse/i...=16410;start=0 if you're interested.
