truck died
i think my vp-44 went thetruck has 163000 miles i put a fass fuel pump on at 145000 but the guy i bought it from said he replaced the lift pump because it wouldnt run. well i was low on fuel the other day coming out of work and all the sudden it just died so i thought i was out of fuel i put 5 gals in it from my can and i went to crack the injector to get the air out and nothing comes out checked fuel at the vp44 and there is plenty pressure going in nothing coming out i think i might of had the 216 code but all im showing now is a 1693, i think the pump finally went i had to get it towed home, whats the possibilities of it bieng the ecm? i guess i have to get a new pump found them on e-bay for 1025.
It is highly unlikely the ECM has failed if you are getting consistent trouble code display. When the ECM goes the trouble codes die with it, or change each time you check.
I would be a bit hesitant buying a VP off E-Bay unless it is from a reputable pump rebuilder that can tell you they specifically changed the front diaphragm, installed a new processor, and used the improved version of the rear housing with the steel piston liner that will not wash out. If they cannot, pay the couple hundred more and get a pump from someone like Bluechip diesel that will last and not be half shot when you install it.
I am on the road a great deal and have lost track of the number of times Dodge guys tell me they installed a rebuilt VP44, and either get lousy fuel economy and have low power, or have it fail in weeks to months after the install. The reason for these problems is simple, a marginal pump was installed that had been partially rebuilt and not all the defective parts were replaced.
