Transmission Temps

Transmission Temps
Hey guys,
I finally broke down and bought some guages. I got a pyro, trans temp, and boost guage. I got them installed this past weekend. And, I first thought the transmission tem guage was dead. But, I am beginning to rethink that. The guage is an ISSPRO EV1 that reads 100-280 degrees. I can start the truck up and drive down the road a crusing speed and the guage will never move. But, I can get in town in stop-and-go traffic and it will creep up to around 130 or so. The absolute hottest it has read so far was 160. That was in the woods cutting firewood. I was pulling up and backing up and not moving very far at a time.
So, do those temps sound right? Would the tranny run cooler than 100 degrees at cruising speeds? Bare in mind, I do have a deep sump B & M cast aluminum pan that I believe adds four extra quarts, the valve body has had some updates to allow for more flow and higher pressures, and I have a heavy-duty triple disk torque converter. Any thoughts?

First thing.. Im not sure how big the dif is in trans temps between 12v and 24v, but if there similiar, then your good.
Is that curising speed when the gauge doesnt move, after its been sitting though the night or for most the day?
When I get in mine in the morn, trans will be around 30-50* depend on over night outside temps, and will take a good 10-15 minutes befor hitting 100*.
Optimal trans temp is 130* normal is 160-180* if you hit 200, pull over and let it cool in netural I belive is what your supposed to do.
With my deep pan on mine, I never see over 190* even in mid summer 90-100* outside while towing 8k lbs aound town stop and go.
Keep in mind, this is on my 24v with built trans, but I think most would agree.

It also depends on where you have the temp probe. Everyone has their opinion as the best place, but I went with the hot line and it still takes 10-20 miles of cruising...in winter...to get over 100*.

When I'm cruising the needle never moves. But, bare in mind, the temps have not been above freezing since I installed the guage. When I'm stopped the temps will creep up to around 130. But, when I start moving the needle bottoms out. And, by the way, I put my sensor in the pan. My B&M pan already has a port for it. Thanks for all the replies! Do those numbers sound right?

Ok so i have 2 trans gauges. I have the Isspro in the hot line and the Pulse sender in the drive port.
They read anywhere from 30-50* different. Like Goerends said he doesn't care what the hot line reads the critical temp in the pan temp.
While i was pushing snow the hot line would get up to 220*+ but the drive port was only 140-150*. So i wasn't worried.

What are the outside temps in your area? The temps here in northern Tennessee have not been above freezing since I installed my guage.

Mornings going to work it's between mid 20's and upper 30's I drive 8 miles to work and do not see a change off 0. Afternoons are around 50's and 60's and still do not see a change unless I drive more than straight home. I usually do not see a change until I'm on the road for 20 or 30 min. I hope this helps, Jim
