First of all I checked the codes by cycling the key and I have a P0216. So I guess it's time for a new ip. I just bought the truck and I am also having transmission issues that may or may not be related to the pump problem.

When taking off from a stop at full throttle the tranny won't upshift to 2nd unless I back off the pedal. The rest of the shifts are firm and feel ok.

I also have a dead pedal issue when trying to lightly accelerate at about 40mph. I usually have to pump the pedal but on occasion if I push the pedal a little harder and wait for a couple of seconds the tranny will downshift and the truck drives normally for a while.

Just wondering if my new VP44 will cure these problems or is something else going on as well?

With the code, engine may not produce enough rpm/acceleration to upshift to 2nd, and other issues are relativelly common for failing VP44.

I guess that makes sense. The tach shows it revving up quickly to 3000 rpm but then it just kind of stays there and doesn't quite get to 3200rpm. Thanks.

Is that the only code?
The 'dead pedal' is the VP dying.
The upshift problem is either the speed sensor or the governor pressure sensor and transducer in the trans.
