Remote trans cooler install...w/pics

Well, I didn't have room up front for a tranny cooler so I had to get a remote one... I went with one from B&M with a little fan on it and auto thermostat... Here are a few pics of what I did... I still have to hook up power and run my lines... But that is the easy part and tomorrow is another day!! Thanks to BC for answering my questions...

Thanks guys, here is a link to the fan... I chose this one because of the mounting area around the fan... Others I was looking at didn't have anyplace to secure a framework around...

To help ensure you get all the fan's good for, power it by way of a relay fed with 10awg wire.

- Wire it like the headlight relay trick. Have the control (thermostat/manual over-ride) power the relay, and the 10awg (fused) from the battery power the fan by way of the relay's contact.

- An option would be to have a line run back to the cab from the actual fan's hot wire. This can be used for powering an illuminated (manual/auto) switch. The light would act as proof the fan's getting power be it automatically by the thermostat, or by way of the manual over-ride.

David... Why would I use 10 ga wire, to me that seems way overkill... The wire leads out of the fan are like 16... I am not the best with wiring... the fan is only supposed to draw like 10-12 amps... So... why the need for such heavy ga wire?? Thanks

10 gauge will give you the least voltage drop over the length of the wire and is recommended. You could get away with 12 gauge but I'd go with 10 gauge personally.

What Shift220 said.

Also, if you're gonna run the fan's ground to the frame (and why wouldn't you?), be sure to add a 10awg jumper from the battery's negative terminal to the sheet-metal of the body. The OEM body connection to the neg terminal is dinky at best. Everyone should do that one upgrade and will most likely see everything get a bit brighter.
