Ram hits 1.78 million miles.
Terry Binder of Pittsville, Wis just gave his 1989 Cummins Ram pickup to a friend with 1,780,000 miles on the clock. He gave it away and bought a new 2004 model because he says he likes the newer seats better.
Terry says he delivers flatbed trailers all around the US, so he's on the road much of the time. In the 15 years of use he's only had to replace two sets of ball joints and two exhaust systems. He replaces the brakes every 250,000 and the tires every 40,000.
Terry washes his truck several times a week because he thinks a clean truck "just runs better." In fact he says he probably could have bought a new truck for all the money he's spent on washing. But he seriously thinks it makes a big difference.
Most surprising of all was that he only changes the oil every 30,000 miles. "I use Mobile Delvac in all my tractors, my wife's Ford Taurus (240k miles) and even a push lawn mower I bought for $59 and haven't changed the oil in 22 years. It still starts on the first pull".
Terry's old truck has only a tiny bit of rust on the bed, otherwise looks brand new.

Amazing.........another example of why Cummins is the most durable engine in a light truck. Even GM and Ford owners know not to ever expect anywhere close to that life expectancy from their diesels!

Why should the others make something that would last? Then you wouldent buy a new one every 3 years. I think since Cummins makes real engines for industrial purposes they have to be good. The workin mans truck, not the chrome cowboy truck

Every 30000? Imagine doing oil changes and tire rotations every 4000mi. I'm doing 12000 mi changes now. That's only two round-trips, cross country every month.

That is amazing that one could last that long on the original motor.
By the sounds of it the person who wrote the paper didn't know what they were talking about but the guy who was talking did as he called it fuel mileage and not gas mileage.

I have seen 2 first gen dodges in Redding that had 1 million and the other had 1.2 million on it. They delivered trailers all over the US, Canada, and Mexico. Gotta love the MEDIUM DUTY DIESEL thats in our trucks, unlike the lite duty in the chebbies and furds!

Not many people keep records to prove that many miles, but I do believe it is possible. Mobil delvac 1300 is a top of the line oil and I use it in my own vehicles and promote it to customers. I've pulled heads on diesels with 700,000+ miles and could see 90% of the crosshatch in the cyls. The key to ultra hi mileage is good maintainence and top quality oil and filters, and reasonable driving habbits too.

That really isn't that unreasonable, what I found astonishing is the front tires on a semi going over 200k miles and only needing replacement because they wore to much on the shoulders (I think I seen that on centramatics site, btw- thanks for letting me know of the balance beads bill, got them installed the other day but haven't tried them out yet. ).
