The Quest For More Power
Ok guys, I had my '95 reg cab longbed for a couple months now. Fixed some maint. issues ( new steering box, fuel filter, brake issues, replaced missing plug in top of AFC). Truck was stock when bought. Only mod was pillar pod with Isspro fuel pressure boost and pyro. Truck ran up to about 650 deg. pyro with 19 lbs. of boost. Played with the fuel pump as recommended in the store section of this web sight under pump mods. Have to this point advanced the fuel plate all the way forward, housing all the way forward and smoke screw is flush with the locking nut, star wheel advanced all the way. Now I'm pushing up to 24 lbs. boost, pyro maxing at 900 deg. I get a small puff of smoke on launch that clears up in about a half a second. Truck seems to have quite a bit more power (maybe 60hp) and is more fun to drive. Where do in go from here to get more fuel? Fuel pressure is almost 30 psi at wot. Stock lift pump.
Not looking to make smog. It seems as if my stock turbo is doing a more than adequate job. Don't understand the numbers for alternate fuel plates. What is my best option for further progression?

a number 10 torque plate and a 3000 rpm governor spring will make a big difference in how the truck works. You will see 36 to 38 lbs boost , well I do .

You can also advance the timing to about 16 degrees which will help you.
A somewhat larger turbo (S-300 or HX-40/16) will help your power too but may be more than you want to spend.
Good luck.

First things first if you're transmission isnt up for the extra fuel Id suggest getting upgraded valve bodies and a torque converter or a better clutch, those autos dont like anything over stock power. After that I would definitely jump for the 4gsk rather then the 3gsk. Grab a 0 plate or just tear it out, it wont hurt anything. I run a hx40 and really dislike it, most guys will probably tell ya the s300 just like John did. Timing is a great addition as well, and its possible for you to do it yourself. My knowledge is limited but Im sure some big guns will chime in and get you some go fast mods.

Pretty much the smaller the number the more fuel. So #0 plates or no plate fuels the most. I know alot of guys who use their trucks primarily for towing use a #10 plate, as for me my truck is a DD so I tore the plate out. It takes literally about 5 minutes. Hope this helps

Thanks guys for pointing me in the right direction. Need to get a trans temp gauge and am looking into a torque converter and trannie upgrades before I go too far. I've also installed an MBRP 4" turbo back. Truck is becoming great inspiration for my 16 year old son to expand his mechanical knowledge. Just gotta keep him away from the pulling track until we make this thing a little stouter.
