Opinions on tst
I've done the search, but I'm still not sold. As with any other product I have looked at for my first diesel, I don't feel confident in making the purchase. I don't think I have seen one product that at least 60% of people can agree is a good product, not even wheels or tires.
Anyway, I know a guy that has a tst pm cr that he will install for me. My question is, how safe is this box compared to others?
I know it will shred my tranny on the upper levels, but my intended use is just a bit more power and response, not to race. I want it to be safe for my new truck and not void my warranty. If anyone has any information or opinions on this box, or even just some details on how it works would be great. Their website has no information that I even find remotely useful. I know bombing is a risk, but I just can't resist it if the risk is slight enough. Thanks.

) or do they act like a turned up truck? Just curious as I have a line on a used on that's just a couple of months old.
I'm not ruling out a tranny upgrade in the future as I personally think the 48re is crap. It is as smooth as sandpaper and doesn't feel like it will make to 20k miles IMO. I would like to know about how much I would be looking at for a new valve body and a torque converter installed?? Even though I don't have much love for my 48re, I do get nervous about doing any work on it this early on.
The guy I spoke with advised me to get the Edge over the TST, but this is right after he told me a story about a guy who worked for Cummins for 20 some years that strongly advises AGAINST raising fuel pressure.
Doesn't matter because it looks to be months before Edge has something for the 600.

If you are concerned about tearing stuff up and want just a bit more power go with the ez. I have the tst and so far it has been reliable, I run on the lowest setting most of the time which is 25 hp. The tst will make the engine louder due to timing. If you turn the box up at all you are asking for trouble. I have run 4/4 with no problems of clutch or heat, but it fuels so hard and fast down low that you are asking for turbo problems. I tried to ease into 5/5 for a couple seconds and felt it would be smart to stay away from this level for I feel it is way too aggresive and more hp than anything stock can hold. If you are worried about reliability issues you must keep the tst turned down, mainly on the torque setting. Anything over 2 on torque makes the boost flash like a windshield wiper. Power anything over 3 and tranny troubles will be in your future.

I have had the pmcr on my truck for about 5000 miles and I think it is great. I can not say anything in comparison to edge as I have never run an edge. I had TST fuel plate on my 96 and was impressed with it and the company so I went back to them for the pmcr. I have run it on 4/4 and that is awsome but I have a manuel. I normally run on 2/2 and that is about 40 hp and 120 torque added and that is even quit noticable improvement over stock. I have not towed with it as yet our first trip with the 5er is comming up the end of this month. I will probably run it on 3/3 for towing but not any higher. That would add about 60 hp and 180 torque. The torque setting adds fuel from 700 to 1900 rpm and the power setting starts at 1200 rpm and overlaps with the torque setting up to 1900 rpm at which point only the power side is adding fuel. Both power and torque fuel increases are boost actuated. Big boost much more fuel low boost not a lot of extra fuel. The box also adds 12 degree of timing on level one. Run on 0/0 and everything is completely stock. The power and torque increases are in my openion extremely smooth due to the boost actuation. I am not sure this helps you a lot as my truck is not an auto tranny and I am obviously sold on the pmcr.
The added benefit is that the remote used to set power and torque also has digital egt and boost readouts. I mounted mine on the steering collum just under the speedometer and the only thing on the dash that it blocks is the word cruise on the bottom part of the speedo when cruise is actuated. It is small and mounts with velcro and stays in place quite well.

I got one last week and WOW!, it is on 5/5 right now and it is really aggressive at higher throttle positions. I get smoke at W.O.T.? high rpms ( the turbo is too small to keep up). The clutch seems to be holding but I haven't towed w/it yet(I WILL turn it down like TST says when I do).
Thanks for the replys. I guess my real worry now is the warranty thing. I've got some pull at the local dealership, but I would hate to void my warranty which I view as the MOST important part of my truck.
If you change the fueling in any way, be prepared to be your own warranty station. They can hook up your truck to their computer and tell if you have had any mods on it to increase HP.
If the warranty is the most important thing to you about your truck, then leave it stock.
