oil preasure ?'s
oil preasure ?'s
Ok guys, on my 90 what should the oil preasure run at? when it is warmed up it is right at the bottem line, not the one right next to L but the bottem line in the middle section(3 or 4 lines) and when i am driving it moves up to the next line, so it is never over 1/2, is there something wrong or is this normal? i know my friends cummins run higher but there 2nd gen's

That's how mine works, and as far as I've heard, that's where they were at off the lots.

Then again, I don't know how accurate that gauge really is... The needle might just stay in the same location for anything over 30 PSI.

On my 89 that's where it sits. That was after I changed the bad sensor. From what I read here the only way to know what your oil pressure really is, is to install a proper calibrated gauge.
WD said that any pressure is enough for the Cummins. Mine went down a tick when I switched to Mobil1 Truck/SUV oil but I hope it gets a little better mileage. It starts easier in the cold also.

Yup, factory gauges are a rough approximation at best. I replaced my oil sender and it got better, but it's slowly getting lower. I finnaly plumbed a mechanical gauge into the same port that the factory sender is in, results: pegged the 100psi gauge when cold, 65psi cruise and 38psi hot idle. I don't watch the dash gauge anymore.

However, if the stock gauge is showing pressure, you are OK. If not, it's likely a bad sender. Oiling system problems are very uncommon on these trucks.

Wow, you get good oil pressure!
My '92 usually is about 75-80 cold, 50-55 driving around at 50mph, and about 30-35 hot low idle.
I got a cheap guage at walmart and seems to do the trick, as my factory guage was junk when i bought the truck.
