By popular demand, we will be going back to The Ranch after the races in Denton on the 31st.
If you've been there, you know what you need to bring.
I don't plan on cooking, but if someone else wants too, feel free to do so.
Excellent! I'll be there!
I can live with a stop in Van Alystene for Burger King/Subway.

I think the next of my A/C adventures will involve pulling the HVAC housing to check the blend door. The air I get is pretty cool, but not as cold as I've heard other people report. And as I start turning the temp dial toward hot, it gets hot quick. I'm thinking that my blend door isn't aligned properly and even on full cold, I'm still getting some air passed over the heater coil.
I've considered shutting off the flow of coolant through the heater coil to see if it helps matters any, but I've heard conflicting reports on whether this is doable/advisable or not.

My suggestion is to find the area of the leak and then try the snake...er..um...seal oil in your R-134a...........
Its a temporary fix....my suggestion is to find the issue and fix it correctly by replacing the o-ring, line, or component that is causing the issue.
Look for oil residue on any lines (Especially at junctions). Look around your air box…at the high pressure line….they can rub and leak there. Check your condenser on the fnt of the truck for punctures. If you find nothing…might be the evaporator core in the dash…..(which that is where I think mine is leaking). Other than getting some one to pull the system down to 0 PSI and capture the R-134a. Then pulling a vacuum after the work is done, AC work is pretty simple (Pending you don’t have to mess with the compressor or pull the dash.

One suggestion for a quick test on this is to temp bypass your heater core with a line splice. Should be pretty easy and quick other than loosing a bit of coolant. This would allow your heater core to be cool and your evap. core can do its thing with out the bias air from the heater core.
Sorry guys...i troubleshoot all day....so....bleeds over......[laugh]

Do I just need to block the inlet to the heater core, or connect the inlet to the outlet and bypass the core to maintain flow?
I had considering putting a valve in line and basically turning off flow to the core during the summer. When the valve was closed, the coolant would flow from inlet hose to outlet and bypass the core. We had a similar system on the buses at A&M that kept the cores cool during the summer. But I wasn't sure how it would affect the core here.

Never had liked the AC in my truck... Rear seal blew out of the compressor a few months back, jsut couldn't spend the $$ when it was nice outside...
One of those deals where I could ahve installed the new compressor piece of cake. But I dont have the tools to split AC lines for the orfice (stupid dodge strikes again with a no replaceable orfice, have to replace teh whole dang line! ) no tools for pulling a vac and refill correctly... That and the dryers are a touchy thing... Once they get saturated they are done for... Easy to do with the humidity today!
Truck still only has mediocre AC... so back to normal I guess...
I know I will catch grief for this statement, but I can hardly leave the Jetta's AC on low for an extended period of time, I just get too dang cold! Constantly turning the AC completey off and then on level 1 off again etc... On high the entire car is cold in 5 min... This is after sitting directly in the sun all dang day... What do they do with these cars and how do I do it to the truck! the cab isn't that big, there should be no problem cooling that thing down...

My sentiments exactly. The g/f's VW gets icy inside with the A/C turned down (even with a black interior). The truck is lucky to keep semi-cool when the sun is blazing outside. I need some good UV blocking tint on all windows to reflect some rays to help this thing out.
I need some good UV blocking tint on all windows
First thing I added to my truck on Day #2 of buying it (June, 2003) ......well 2nd, after synthetic oil on Day #1.
Tint makes a BIG difference. % of cab that is glass on a CTD compared to Jetta has to be much higher, IMO. Also big difference. :)

Well, all windows are tinted. Back and side back windows are factory tint. Front two are as dark as the tint shop would go.
I think the biggest problem is the windshield. That's a huge surface area just soaking up the heat. I think a mirrored windshield might be in order. [laugh] That should make other drivers and the cops happy. :D

Just checked my low side pressure. Sitting right at 45psi by my gauge with the compressor running. So it doesn't look like it needs any more R134a. And the temps appear to be right on with the book. FSM shows 60-70* output at 90*ambient.

RJ, I just read that thread. I have been fortunate and not experienced any DW so far. But I just have an annoying POPPING sound from my front end when turning, particularly in slow moving situations. It was getting pretty bad last year but when Mike and I installed the track bar bushings and steering brace it seemed to go away or be so diminished that I didn't notice it for a while. But it is back now, even worse than before.
I just wonder if I need ball joints or something else now. Very concerning! Truck has 92,000+ miles on it. I need some assistance with diagnosis so I can get this corrected.

I had some popping in my front end and I ended up replacing upper and lower ball joints, axle Ujoints, and one hub bearing assembly. it is as tight as can be now, no popping. I had to do this right after 100k so you may be in the same boat. fyi the ball joints are a PITA to replace because they press in and if you don't have a ball joint press you might as well forget it. Not trying to scare you, just a fair warning. if you have any questions let me know.

We've got a 4240 at home, never even considered putting it on the trailer behind the truck. Back tires full of water with a full weight rack up front, not sure how much it would weigh in at. Used to run duals and had all the weight up front to hold the front end down when pulling a v-ripper.
Basic 4240 is 10,000 lbs... w/o extras. That's the 2x4 model!

My brother-in-law has a Koyker loader on his 3020. Good loader, but they just got done having some additional bracing added to the bottom. Basically built a girdle to tie both sides together under the tractor frame. Before it was there, it had some side-to-side play.

Must have been a design change or maybe just a diffferent model, but mine has a probably 5x8" heavier than heck rectangular tube that bolts between the pedastals under the tractor... Seems like it will transfer the loads better and try and prevent frame twist

In the past when I would load the top row of bales on the GN, it would constantly rock side to side.:o Ever since they added the bracing, it's solid as a rock.

AS far I know, RJ, 13FOX, bnold, Matt and maybe XLR8R and TexasCTD. I'll let you know about eating. There is going to be some wrenching today and not sure how long it will take.

Thanks to everyone who helped me put my Ride Rites on today :)
Me thinks that 55 psi unloaded is a tad too much :) Especially on Charlie's "driveway" [laugh]. Was great to see Diesel-Dan too.
Next meet might be some springs from CSS (thanks RJ, everytime I talk to you, my wallet gets lighter) and an offset swaybar bushing from Lazarsmith.
Wish I could make it back out there tonight, but I think I might be too tired. I will be hanging out here:

Air Bags definately had your rear end up there! Bet it was rough on hwy too.
Drags in Denton were fun. Never did see Ray Salter Run??? Diesel trucks took a back seat to the cars....as usual. :(

Woke up this am and realized our president was very busy this past winter..... breeding a particularly virulent and nasty, new herd of Chiggers!
I sprayed my feet & legs when I got to the ranch and was not worried when I dropped my tranny pan..... to changed out the valve body pressure solenoid, because I was parked on the gravel drive. But these new critters live in gravel !!!!!!!! My butt, back and arm pits are covered with itchy, red welts.
There is some good news, though! When I went to Wal Mart early this am, I didn't get my usual "your not from around here, are you" looks!
Scratching my butt while I walked around had me fitting right in with all the other Okies! [laugh]
Chiggers aside.... great get together at the ranch, Charlie! Fun Saturday... great to see Diesel Dan again .... glad Mike made it to races with us .... saw the "Cummins Rail" run a 150 mph?? (anyone remember exact time/speed) .... impressed by Matt's power shifting his new 04 w/ a NV5600 .... Max made his first run on a drag strip and appears hooked on racing (more HP to follow shortly?) and we had perfect truck bed sleeping weather!
Thanks to Tyler for help changing parts on my Valve Body. Getting the pan off & on is much easier with extra set of hands to prevent ATF bath. It now shifts like brand new DTT tranny! Also thanks to Charlie for help with full brake fluid R&R.... and, as always, for use of the ranch! Chiggers aside, it's a great spot for DTR meets!

I don't understand this "chigger" thing. I've never been bitten and have never seen one. You guys must bring them with you and the ambiance of The Ranch must make them more active.
It was a good weekend. Good time at the track and some got a few things done. I have a few odds and ends to do to my truck, but never seem to get around to it.

the cummins rail was fast and NEAT, i cant remember the time. Matt can shift that ole girl pretty well, my first run was a 10.5, and the second was 9.8 and i think there is still room for improvement .... more HP? who knows, parts at this point get $$$$$

And you have to come up to Ardmore on the 21st!
1/4 mile gives you more time to enjoy the process and be aware on what's happening. Also, with the straight line acceleration curve of a compression ignition engine, it's fun beating all those 350 hp, small block chevys that do pretty well in a 1/8 mile but have little pull left for the 2nd 1/8 mile! I can't remember how many time I've been neck and neck with gassers, at the 1/8 pole, and won by 4 lengths in the 1/4 mile. :D

Yes it was, first time ever to be behind the tree, with my addictive personality BOMBing the truck could lead to the end of my bank account and tires [laugh] [laugh], yea one of racergurls buddy's dually DMAX, he played nicely, 2WD.

i do think i can shine alot better in the 1/4, RJ, what kind of numbers can you post in the 1/8th? the "fast" truck that night ran 7.8 or something, could you have won $500? also, will the 21st be less crowded? or maybe even a slower crowd?
max there's a sps66 for sale in the classifieds.... That'll make you go a little faster!
BYE BYE wallet.... , seems like its not just a turbo install, have to do injectors and head studs, and probably better gauges. so theres 4 grand....+/-

calm down racergurl, anyways your 409 is a big block so clearly he is not talking to you, unless you fit nito that 350HP range, which that motor made stock out of the factory in 1963, so you might have a couple more ponies [laugh] [laugh] [laugh]

Don't have my time slips here but I do know I have never been in the 7's .... and never over 90 mph.
(I do remember at least two 8.1 sec runs and several at 89+ mph).
Only streetable diesel truck I personally have ever seen get over 90 mph was Jim Jones in Quadzilla's Duramax! I would have expected Ray Salter's maroon 01 to be faster than 7.8, with three stages of NOS??
Yes, Ardmore is only track within 100 miles of DFW that has max of 5 min wait in line; usually a lot less! Never real crowded.... just good country racing ..... and on average, more home built cars with slower times.

Charlie talked to the GF and she can get off on the 21st. So looks like an Ardmore meet then?? If you need a ride up you get hick a ride with us.
Just finished testing cool air temperatures at Primary turbo (bottom), Secondary turbo (top) and IAT (engine Intake Air Temp).
Very interesting data, IMO.
Anyone interested in the results... send me your e-mail address! (bnold, XLR8R, Diesel_Dan, Crotex, BigBlue .... sent data today).
I would love to compare this info with single turbo temps if anyone has it (or knows someone) for 2nd Gen CTD.
XLR8R, could you send me your 3rd Gen testing results?
