Not Another Turbo ?...........
I need some feedback on turbos. I'm wanting to put a turbo on my 06 black mega cab. I think this time I want to stay with a single. I will run 90 hp injectors, and it has a goerend tranny in it, with smarty, mp8, intake, blah, blah, blah. The truck will tow about 10000lbs every other week. Silver 62? HTB2???? What set up do you guys think?

htt 62/71/13 ss this would be a good turbo for towing since the stainless steel housing can with stand up to like 2100*. i think a 64 might be a possibility as well since you are running 90hp injectors.

When I had the Goerend Bros build my tranny, they said something about not going any bigger than a 62 with the TC they put in. said that it wouldh't spool as fast,or something. I would like to go bigger if possible. Also,
what would be a good single that I could use for a twin set up when i get the cash?

Maybe a.....blah, blah, blah~
sorry, I couldnt resist!
I think he has put you on the right track actually, that is the turbo Im wanting. I dont know why Goerend would say not to go bigger than a 62, but in any case, I dont think the 63 would be too far out of that relm.

When he built the tranny, I told him everything that would be on the truck. said if I went with twins or big single, I would have to change the TC back to a stock stall speed.?? (spooling issues maybe. I'll call him tomorrow to be sure) We were putting 3 trannys in that day so I might be confused with which info went with which truck.... made sense at the time.

A tighter TC definately impacts spool time...that in conjunction with a larger turbo 64+ will definately cause some lag....with my DTT and the stock turbo, i definately noticed more lag compared to stock trans....id hate to see a 64 turbo on my truck for a daily driver.....but that's just me....

Yes, Les at Goerand's gave me the same advice when I ordered my TC. He asked if I was going to a aftermarket turbo, and said they advised a slightly 'looser' TC, because it lets the turbo spool a little better. The tighter ones for stock turbos are a little better on gas mileage and slightly more responsive with the stock turbo, but I was definently interested in another turbo, and so he advised the slightly looser one. BTW, at least for me, this means that they have to get a special stator (think that's what it is) which is a little more money, and so they only offer that particular TC with the lifetime warranty. If you want to save money, and aren't going to upgrade the turbo, you can get the TC with 'only' 100,000 miles warranty and save like $200.
I really liked doing business with Goerand's, wished I had more money, I would have gone the whole transmission upgrade, but I do like my trans now with the input, TC, flex, shift kit (which Les advised with my 2005 trans). I immediately turned up the Smarty when I got the truck back-what a difference! If you step on it now, you really know it!!

I am in love with my super phat shaft 62-71-14. Stays extremely cool spools well and performs extremely well. No need for twins in my book. But then i am happy around the 500hp mark.

If everything were about "need" it would be very boring. ZsaZsa only "needed" one husband. We don't "need" 500hp. We don't "need" 40' 5th wheel trailers. We don't "need" Playboy... oh wait... maybe I went too far there.

I did the complete built tranny, with full warranty and all. This is the first auto truck I've built for myself. The transmission has about 500 miles on it as of today.
Someone recommended going with an Aurora 3000? What HP are these comfortable around?

I can tow 10'000lbs any day of the week With my set-up. This 64 is not laggy I dynoed at 505hp last weekend. Although I do have a six speed witch is different I love my turbo And I'm glad that I went with this size it is like the impetweener (62-66) Just get a small exuast housing in the 62 or 64 And you will love it. Mine stays very cool even when I tow in higher levels of smarty or power puck
