Not very much, but it is not a good idea to let your truck idle to long as the fuel can wash down the cylinder walls and cause problems.

Thumbs up Time

My o4.5 sets some times for 12-15 HRS not in one place but not Manny miles put on it. I will give some advice my Dogde man told me put the truck in neutral and apply the E brake that way the tyranny gets all the fluids
moving. You can get the HRS by using your odometer some how. Back to your Q. my truck doesn't burn 1/8 siting 8hrs all day.

approx .5 gallons... <--april fools I really don't know

What's important to add is that extended idle in excess of 10 min is considered severe service. You'll have oil leakage in the turbo, harder on the engine all together.

Supposedly a 30 minutes of idle equates to the same wear as 40 miles travel. Just something I read years ago, not sure if it is true.

20-30 minutes tops. Some on here say no more than 10. If your ideling to warm up, just plug it in so it is already warm when you start it.

Your truck won't cool the A/C very well just parked and idling, because the flow across the condenser is so low. An aux electric fan might help.

Idle time is a necessary evil. Only do it as much as you have to-- no more.

The less you can get away with doing it, the better.

These trucks will burn about half a gallon per hour but maybe .6 or .75 with the A/C on. That is with the revs up around 1200 RPM. Not sure about at idle. I never let it sit without reving up. I have run the truck for 3 weeks straight without turning it off.

You're the man. That I've never heard of!

I have been wanted a high idle box, but then I saw the price, ouch, $199.00!

I rarely let mine idle for more than 5-10 minutes.
