Gauge Questions
Gauge Questions
I am in the market gauges for my truck.
I want a tach, Pyro, Boost. I have some Isspro guages picked out but I still have a few questions.
Do I have a hookup for a tach already?
General hookup of the boost gauge
Is there any other way to hook up a pryo qauge without tapping the manifold? (i really don't like the idea of tapping my manifold.)
Mounting is not really issue as I am going to design some kind of dash mount for the gauges.
The truck is a 91.5 intercooled 250 2wd.
Many Thanks

No hookup for the tach, that started in '92, but should have a slotted damper, so you could retrofit a sender, or buy the Isspro kit.
There is a plug in the manifold near the intake elbow/heater grids that you can remove and thread your sending tube into.
You can put the probe in the exhaust pipe after the turbo, but it is harder to compare readings from that location to trucks with different turbo set-ups, making it hard to know what the maximum safe operating temperature is.

I drilled thru with a 1/8 first...grease up the drill and chips stick to it. Then went almost thru with the tap drill greased up. Then cleaned the chips, then greased it again and drilled thru. Greased up the tap as well. Then I vacuumed it out with a shop vac with a small hose adapoter duct taped together. Checked after that with a telescoping magnet....no chips to be found.
Hope this helps ease the "fear".

It's pretty easy to do. Take you time and you'll have little if any problems.
We have all the parts needed to do this install including the proper "harness" for the tach install.
You can reach me by PM or at the shop at PDR if you need tech help...just ask for pastor bob..

Tach Harness in '93
I just got around to trying to hook up my ISSPRO tach, and something is wrong with my setup. I followed the instructions, but no reading. I know the wiring is right. I've got good ground, good +12v. I'm wondering if the signal pulses are on the white wire because I can take the gauge to the bench and make it move with my pulse generator, but it won't work in the truck. Where is the sender that is supposed to be generating the pulses? Tomorrow I'll put the O'scope on the signal wire and check some more.
The sender is on the front of the timing case cover, and reads off the two notches in the dampner.
If you it isn't working, it will cause other problems, like no charge, etc. because the computer will think the engine isn't running.
I have a '91, so I don't know which color wire has the signal for you -- sorry.

if you get the autometer diesel tach you just run the hose clamp provided around the ALT with the pick up provided. i just installed it last night, works fine,
(i already had the autometer one ordered when i found out about the isspro kit and tach. oh well i still used the plug under teh dash for the 12v/illum/an ground.
i will take some pics tongiht of my complete gauge set up tongiht.
