Front Bumper Hitch for a gooseneck??
Has anybody ever tried such a thing???
I have a 40' gooseneck trailer I need to get into tight places, and hitching it to the front bumper would be awesome for manuvering it into position. Not sure if this is possible or practical though.....
It would be silly to try with it loaded, but the unladen tongue weight would not be too bad, and the acceleration loads at low speed are darn near negligible. So even if it pushed the front down near the bump stops it should not be a big deal.
I am sure I can fabricate a contraption to do it, but i wanted to see if anyone has some input on how stupid this idea is before i try it.

Uhhhhhh....... NOPE!!!! I would not even attempt it! BUT if you do fabricate something post a picture and let us all see it. The tounge weight of the trailer is ???? and taking the chance of messing up the front end of the truck is not really worth it. You dont have a tractor around the farm to use for this???? Good Luck

I use my tractor to do what you are talking about
the only way I would even consider it is with a front ranch hand type replacement bumper with the receiver hitch option some people get to back in boats, etc. you could then get a drop hitch, put it in upside down with a ball on it and try it

Here is a pic of my "Front Mounted" GN Hitch moving the 42' GN:
What you have in mind could be done it will require a HD bumper and grill guard that is "Rigidly" attached to the frame.. You would be better off to get a tractor with a 3 point hitch, or a ball on top of the bucket..

I guess it would depend on the pin weight of the trailer. I have used my reciever hitch to move unloaded goosenecks around the shop before I had a gooseneck on my flatbed.
I also have a front mounted reciever and would do the same if needed.

I used to have a goose neck trailer that the goose neck could be adjusted down so it could be bumper pulled. If you could modify your g.n. to do the same you could just put a front reciever hitch on your truck to do what you are talking about. With the trailer empty I can't see it hurting your truck.

Here is my set up. https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...8&ppuser=58265 and here https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...7&ppuser=58265 It worked very well you have to keep the front tires at max inflation if you have anything on the trailer and have to turn on dry pavement. Of course my Landrover has NO power steering. I have now bought a skidsteer and you have way more control using that but the Landrover is much faster and street legal. You do get some funny looks though.

I did some searches before posting but could not find anything.
Here is a pic of the truck/trailer
I am a bit of a wierdo owing a 39' flatbed goosneck and parking it on a 1/4 acre lot in silicon valley suburbia, I have a back hoe temporarily right now, but i have no plan to own a fork lift, tractor, or skid steer long term.
Right now its tricky, but I can get it in and out, but I am doing a remodel that cuts down one of my approach angles to the back yard by 13' and the EDIT city wont let me take out the tree that blocks my driveway. total mess. (what I really need is a way to kill that tree and not get caught).
I use it to tow off road trucks around, and I could fab up something for one of those trucks pretty easy, but they wont always be functional.
So basically i dont have any other machines to use to move it around. It is a very heavy trailer though, 7klbs empty and a significant amount of tongue weight.
I am planning an HD bumper long term, and I like the idea of flipping a drop hitch upside down. That should work, This GN has 2 adjustments for Ball height so that should probably work pretty nice.
If this thing had a 2klb tounge weight, do you think a medium size skid steer could handle it? I am kind of thinking of one of those long term.

if you did rig something for the front, due to the tounge weight being a bit much for the front axle, could you leave one of your jeeps towards the rear of your trailer to lighten up the tounge weight untill you park it? or are your toys stored at another location?
