How fast will it go at idle?
I was at a local city park yesterday waiting on my son and his classmates to finish up playing on the playground and I was bored so I decided to play around with my truck. I was sitting in a parking lot in this park and the road going around the park was fairly flat. I put my truck in "D" and just let it idle and eased out onto the road. To my surprise the truck slowly but surely speed up! I got to 15mph and the thing changed gears! I was up to 25mph before I had to slow down for a curve and by then it was time to pick up my son and get on back to school. I know this truck is blessed with lot's of torque but dang! Never had a truck/car that would under idle just accelerate and change to the next gear. I wonder how fast it would go if I had more room? lol. Just really impressed again with this truck. I can't get the smile off my face every time I drive it! Would anyone care to guess on top idle speed?
That all depends on what gear you're in.
If I recall correctly (haven't done it in a while), idling in 6th gear will get you up to around 15 mph.
That said....idling at 25 mph isn't necessarily a good thing. If you should ever make the mistake of accidently leaving your truck running and in gear when you get out of it (I know, I know...but it's been done) then suddenly you've got a 7000 lb truck running away at 25 mph with nothing to stop it but that little kid in the road on his bike.

What did your tach read doing that. I would think also that it would not be to good on the engine straining, lugging, just letting it idle going down the street. When I run in town, city driving where the speeds or say 35 to 40 mph I usually turn off the OD button, and run direct 3rd. This may not be necessary with out pulling a load, but keeping the RPM's up around 1500 or little over makes me feel a little better about the engine and trans.

I can idle up a small incline of wet pasture with a 10k trailer hooked to it with no problem in first gear.Do it all the time with horses in it to keep from getting stuck and spinning tires etc.

Yea, the standards are the torque masters in first at idle... that'll pull a frickin house down like that.
I tried going a tank to compage mpg with OD on and off and the only place it ever made a difference was if I went over 45. OD on it would kick up a gear and the RPMs would go down. Otherwise around town, it made no difference in it's gear selection or RPMs. BTW, it's because of the gear not going into 4th on the 45+ roads, I actually got worse mpg with OD off... not by much, but by enough to know to keep the OD on.

Yeah, I idled to sixth once for kicks. 1st~3mph, 2nd~5mph, 3rd~10mph, 4th~15mph, 5th~20mph and i don't secall what 6th was. Works well at the beach(15mph speed limit) and at the lake/park where the speed limit is 10mph off pavement.

my auto at idle on flat ground won't go over 10 MPH which is where i figure it should be (and it takes a while to get there). i can't imagine going 25 MPH at idle on flat ground with an auto. sounds like something is wrong to me. if nothing else it would be a safety issue.

To be fair, the road I was on might have had a slight downhill fall to it. I did not get out and put a level on it but it seemed flat. I was just amazed it changed gears and kept slowing going faster that's all. I was at a park close to my house next time I am that way with nothing to do I will do a test on that same stretch of road both ways and compare.
The speed limit in my subdivision is 20mph, with my truck if I leave it in drive it will "idle" into 2nd gear and run about 18mph. If I accelerate up to about 25 and let off the throttle it will shift into 3rd then OD and run about 28-29 mph. If I turn the OD off and accelerate to 25 it will shift to 3rd and slow to about 22-23mph. Just about right.
