How do I know if the trans. has been upgraded?
I'm wondering if the trans in my truck has ever been upgraded like a valve body, better torque converter, and/or other mods. What are some clues while driving that would detect modification?
The truck really runs strong and shifts good with no more mods I have done.

Throw on a comp on kill for a few days and you'll know. Obvious signs would be larger and/or ribbed trans pan, or tag on side by rebuild shop. Maybe you have paperwork from previous owner showing all work done. You could find out who owned it before and contact him.
You could pull inspection cover, and see if torque converter is colored blue or red, this would indicate aftermarket. With your stock setup you're not overfueling, so it should shift fairly smooth between gears if it doesn't have shift kit. Check for pump wire showing signs of piercing wire on VP-44. A few things to check.

if it kicks like a mule when you shift into "D,2,1, or R" from park or neutral.... Also if shifts are REALLY firm its likely to have been at least rebuilt. And when you hit lockup point *probly somewhere around 60mph stock at WOT* if there is a big drop in rpm's like maybe.... 500 or so its probly stock, the stock tc's arent too efficient i suppose

Does it shifts like a pimp mobile cadilac real cushy or does it shift firm or hard like its got some "*****" in fluid volume and line pressure. When you get on it or even going easy it will have a quick, snapy, distinctive shift?
I have a SMR vb kit that I installed myself and modified. I barely crack the throttle or idle, running slow and it snaps into 2,3,lock od off , and 4 and lock very distinctive. Shift kits, you drill larger fluid passage holes in the VB seperator plate , for more fluid volume for 1-2, 2-3, 4 and lock up shifts and replace valves in the vb and put in a stiffer line pressure spring, along with enlargeing passages to increase fluid volume to the lock up clutch etc.
I drove Cowhands truck with the Goerend Bros trans. All I can say about that Georends and that TC is,,, " Yea Buddy",,,. That TC gave it some low end UUMFF!
