Convert 4x4 to 2wd? Drrr...

So I have waaaay too much money in my truck to sell and get a 2wd. Never make back all the $ I spent. But now I'm thinking of trying to build a super high mpg sport truck that actually rides well and is fun to drive.
How hard would it be to convert?
I use the truck for occasional towing, and hauling around random used building materials, nothing too heavy.

find front end from 4X2, I would think it would bolt right up. Yank t-case, buy driveshaft, yank rear end blocks. I hope it doesn't snow where you live, because up here most people would ask you if you fell off your rocker. lol

Or take all your goodies off your 4X4 and get a 4X2, put them back on.

I would rather have 4x4 and not need it than need it and not have it. What your doing is spending alot of time and money that could be put into the diesel tank. Yea you can sell the 4x4 parts to defray the cost of 4x2 parts. Find a set of 3:07 gears for it, I think someone here did that and loves it. PM sent to ya. Good luck.

From what I understand you can remove your front Dana 60 and directly bolt in a solid front axle & related parts from a late 60's Dodge 3/4T truck. This was discussed a few months ago on http://www.dodgepowerwagon.com/ pertaining to converting a Townwagon from 2WD to 4WD.

Just convert the front to locking hubs, unlock them and you have 2wd.

Why do you need a 2wd truck anyway? Is the 4x4 too high?

Yeah, it's probably not worth the trouble to get the extra mpg's, if I'm going to spend all that time and money. "Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it."
Maybe I'll just find an old 2wd and add it to the stable!
thx

I have ridden in both 2wd and 4wd 1st gen's. The 4wd I rode in was a smoother ride then my 2wd. I purchased a 2wd for same reasons you want 2wd. I'm building a crew cab and it is being converted to 4wd BECAUSE I've owned a 2wd.
