Building Up My Tranny

Building Up My Tranny
I have a 99 2500ctd. So far my power mods are limited to a 4"straight pipe and a BHAF. I have been looking to further upgrade my hp numbers via a programmer and turbo upgrades but since I will be driving this truck for a long time (my goal is 300K) i want to make my tranny last as long as possible. The truck itself has 160,000mi on it but it had a factory reman put in it at just under 100k. I have been told the best mods are an aftermarket throttle body and torque converter. Was looking for advice on specific brand names and parts. The truck is my daily driver but once a month I pull a 9k pound trailer a little over 100 miles. Any help is appreciated. Just looking to upgrade now so i dont end up spending more down the road.

A lot of people around here have very good things to say about Goerend TC and VB's.
Based on that I called them, and purchased their triple disc TC and their high pressure VB, and a couple other parts they recommended. They are very good honest people that make excellent performing parts.
Their TC has an unlimited mileage warranty!!
They are very highly recommended.
I am VERY happy with the performance of my truck with the new parts from Goerend installed.

I'm getting ready to do the same thing.
I just bought the truck with 2000 miles on a rebuilt tranny.
I am planning on doing a torque converter and valve body also.
My question is I had planned on unbolting the tranny and t-case from the engine and cross member.
Lowering them to replace the converter then doing the valve body while it is back in the frame.
Is this OK or should I separate the tranny/t-case and pull the tranny out for the install?
I have a decent jack that I use for tranny work so I can support everything pretty well on it.
Also, Will the engine balance on it's own with the tranny disconnected or should I strap it in place?
Didn't mean to jump into your post. I had planned on posting about this today and saw this post.
Any help would be great.
Thanks, Ken

Do a search and pay particular attention to owners asking for help after replacing tranny parts and having their tranny out multiple times and it's still not right. For each lucky or very skilled guy having success there are ten others having continuing problems. Better to swap in an off-the-shelf RE-ENGINEERED whole unit built for your needs, if you can afford it. If not, I hope you're lucky.
