I bought another First Gen

After months of sitting around being frustrated at my lack of luck in scoring a Getrag/205 Combination for our Crew Cab conversion, I stumbled on this truck.

I was looking for a none running 4x4 parts truck, and what I got we drove home. It runs real decent for a truck that has basically sat since 2000 (3000 miles total) Started right up with a jump for the old battery and Drove home amidst some slightly odd nosies coming from the rear brakes.

Except for a drip rail that needs attention ASAP the cab it self is rust free. Fenders/doors/hood are shot...the box is a mess but does have a goose-neck hitch in it. The 4x4 shifts smooth, the transfercase is smooth. And WOW that Nv4500 shifts SO MUCH better than the Getrag.

This was in the glove box..since this repair the truck has about 3000 miles on it. The fella that owned it never finished paying...so it sat since 2000 until I purchased it, minus a weekly stint as the trash truck at the dealer.

Looks like the crew cab is getting a NV4500 ;-)

Yah I am feeling a little better about it since I drove it home. I am not sure what I will do with the spare 6bt frame/axles and such....but between the new transmission, the new steering box, clutch (suppose to be OEM Dodge) and the new transmission (not a rebuilt apparently....hope it has the 5th gear nut update) I couldn't not buy it...I need all those pieces.

Now to start the lowest budget 6bt-Crew Cab swap yet attempted lol

I know you would have no trouble getting rid of those extra parts. I would grab them up in a minute if they were a thousand miles closer. I would be my daughter's hero for life if I could drop a 6bt in her Ramcharger.

Hey, that sounds like a dare. Nice find on that truck. I wish my parts truck had those parts instead of a 318 and half ton chasis. For the right price, I'll drive out and relieve you of this burdon of worthless extra parts.

I was looking at the invoice and don't see the bellhousing and flywheel housing if the dealer converted a getrag truck to an NV? Definitely a good find either way.

Free89W350: Thanks I will need all the luck I can get.

pulltilbroke: Your most likely going to regret that offer LoL

Bookshelf: One of the other invoices I have shows the purchase of the AA bellhousing/kit, and replacement of the flywheel, and also the purchase of the transmission. Given the condition of the truck, and even if I assume there were less dents in it before it was given weekly garbage scow duty, I still can't see why he invested $4k into it honestly...I am thankful regardless.

Trooperthorn: My wife took a look at your project and has spent the last few days now trying to coax me into doing a body off restoration of the frame/body on ours while doing the 6BT swap. I begged off with "but my cherry picker is broken" not sure that worked LoL

I imagine when i am done with this little adventure I will have a lot of left over pieces to sell/trade...invent uses for. How about a 6BT in a Ford Class C motorhome?

I'll bet you got a smokin deal on the price to boot. Some guys have all the luck. I see a few first gens doing exactly what yours did and maybe a little plowing at dealerships. HMMM, maybe I should start inquiring!
