best injectors for a '93
Hi, I'm new to this site...just picked up my first diesel last week, a 1993 W250 CTD, and I want to get a bit more power out of it...I have heard that replacing the injectors can produce gains of around 40hp...has anyone installed these in their first gen. ram diesel, are they worth the $$$? I have also read that the pump can be tweaked to produce a gain of 60-70hp...are there any issues to look for when doing these mods? Can the tranny handle the extra 100+hp? I have the getrag 5 speed...

Hate to say it,but check out the "sticky". There is a lot of free power under the hood that will only cost you a couple hours time. Fill out you sig and enjoy the site!

I made the mistake of getting injectors before turning up my pump. That was before my time here. I got most of my power from the fuel screw. . .enough that I couldve saved the $360 dropped on injectors for a turbo upgrade. This is the kind of stuff I wouldve loved to have learned before I started on my truck.

Started out with pump tweaks, Starwheel/Power Screw(free). Next was 4" exhaust($40 and $6 for a six pack for the local muffler shop guy to sell me the pipe, home-built), BHAF($40 air filter at truck shop). Then POD Injectors ($150, used from a friend), DD Old Smokey Fuel Pin($125 from DDP back then, I think price has gone up), 3,200 Governor spring($17 from Bosch dealer). HX35 Turbo($100 at junkyard, in great shape) with a 40 compressor wheel, 16cm housing(worked for a turbo shop at the time, so those were freebies), built a 4" downpipe and 5" exhaust($60 in material at metal recycler), and lastly...a SouthBend Clutch ($525 through local truck drivetrain company). The stock clutch and Getrag 360 held up fine for about 10k with the motor setup, but it finally slipped one day so I had to get an upgrade. I didn't have much money to spend so everything was done by myself. It was my only vehicle at the time, and it was never down for more than a few hours.

Well I have an appointment tomorrow morning to get some 30 hp injectors installed and the fuel pump tweaked and I'll see what else they can do to it while I'm there...I'd really like to get an EGT and boost gauge.

What brand injectors are you having installed for you?

I believe they're bosch, just new tips I think...I was also wondering about that DDP performance pin, is it available for the first gen. and is it a good mod? Any 4" downpipes available?

DDP ends up being 75 after you send them your old one. I like mine...5lbs of boost and a lot of fun. Should have saved 75 and ground it myself, lord knows I can do it. I bought some water hardened stock yesterday, think I might machine my own, just to try.

I'd grind your own pin. After playing around in a spare pump I have, I've found that the home-ground pin is enough to max out the travel of the pin that rides on it. If you can't grind your own or don't want to mess something up, send me a PM.
