Balancing driveshaft
I swapped out my original rear driveshaft with its original U joints at 220,000 miles. I put in a brand new complete Dodge shaft.
Problem is it doesn't run as smooth as the original one and I get a bit of a buzz at about 70 MPH.
I'm wondering if anyone has had theirs balanced and how much it cost.
Thanks

Holy crap.....you got that many miles out of your factory joints? I went through 4 sets in less than 200k.
Did you go to the one piece shaft or, God forbid, another 2 piece? I have read a few post on Comp D about new shafts having to be re-balanced. Seems like a waste of money since it should be ready to go when you get it.

I had mine balanced as part of the R&R with three new joints. No more vibrations.

A balance shouldn't be very expensive. Look for a big truck drive line shop local to you. Balance Master has a driveshaft balancer kit that just bolts on.

Just had the U-Joints replaced and shaft balanced last week on my '98 12v(1 piece shaft). I believe total price was $86 or so. Took care of vibration I was chasing.

SPICER says to re-balance any time it is removed for inspection. And u-joints must be removed to be inspected. I intend to just replace them all again at another 100k as standard service. Will add a BALANCEMASTER sheerly for overkill.
