AFC/Fuel Pin Cleanup Question

I checked my fuel pin the other day to see if it was sticking, and noticed I had alot of what appeared to be dirt down the AFC shaft and close to the breather hole where that rubber piece covers on the outside.

My question is this:

Is it safe to spray that down with some break cleaner or WD40 and then blow all that stuff out with air or is there another way? I guess WD would work better as I stand to cut the grease off the pin if I used break cleaner. Just wanting to make sure there are other reasons I am not seeing for doing this a different way.

Thanks!

WD-40 will do fine. The gunk is old grease, make sure you put a little fresh grease where the fuel pin rides before you put it back together.
