98 12 valve trans question
Hi, I'm looking to buy a 98 12 valve, quad cab and was wondering if much improvements have been made in the automatics since 94 to 96. My family has had them rebuilt and don't have to much confidence in them. I can't afford to buy a truck and put 3-4K in a trans.... Thanks, Artie

All depends how you use it, my dad has a 94 all stock and has a little over 300,000 on the clock and hauls 10,000lbs maybe 4 or 5 times a year. Only prob he had was the temp sendor and tps.

Thanks CGA03 and CLUTCH1, I have thought about a manual trans as well. I was wondering if Dodge did some improvements through the years with the automatics? And what automatic transmission would a 12v have in 98? I have been looking for a truck with a 6' bed, are these called a "Sport"? The short boxed seem to go cheaper than the long bed 8'. Is this my imagination? Thanks, again, Artie

it is a 47RE and the only changes made are lack of a govenor housing in the overdrive unit, shorter output shaft (more prone to breaking upon bombing) and addition of govenor pressure sensor and govenor pressure solenoid in the valve body, and addition of low reverse check ball in the valve body. but no strength improvents were made to the RH to RE unit.
