New Smarty JR software weak?

Finally updated my JR from 5.12 v14 to 5.12 v19 just to see what would happen. Found four big points and one minor point:

1: The truck idles and runs a bit smoother
2: Under light load, with light to moderate acceleration the throttle feels more responsive
3: Smoke is greatly reduced
4: Full-throttle acceleration is greatly reduced

Minor point: This tune changed the way my overhead reads, (down about 0.8mpg) but it appears I'm actually getting better overall mileage. I'll be able to confirm tomorrow when I fill up.

Anybody else notice the change in performance? I don't want a lot of smoke, but I miss the way I used to get shoved into the seat when I matted the pedal in 4th gear...

I'm on v17 right now and it does give you that shoved in the seat feel. Do you have a older version ?

it would be nice to have a change log for each new version

I downloaded v17 and v18 when they came out, but never got around to updating the programmer until this week, and v19 was the newest so it's what I went with. I'm going to finish the tank of fuel, and then load v18 and see what happens.

How is your smoke? When I was running v14 I could blackout an intersection if I wasn't careful, and low-rpm acceleration was really dirty until the turbo hit around 10psi.

I just dowloaded the latest software the day after Father's day...I see on the site that there is a more recent version (SJRPV512AR19A.7z) as of 7-11.

Is this update the one you guys are reffering to? I obviously have not downloaded this one yet...so your saying it's "less" impressive power-wise?

That's the way I was...ran what it came with because it ran so good, and I was afraid to lose the program. It's also the reason I downloaded three tunes before I finally got the courage to update...

That's the one. My impression is less power at full throttle, but slightly more responsiveness in the mid-range. MUCH less smoke though. And mileage this tank (20.68mpg) is identical to the last tank which was run over the same road and weather conditions. Think I'm going to load v18 and see what that gets me. If I'm still unhappy, I'll try v17.

New as of early July...you wouldn't happen to have a copy of 5.12v14 in your archive would you?

I loaded up 5.12v19 today and I like it! It was 99* out, which is prime for low boost smoke and it was much much less. I am on SW3 and smoked like I did pre-turbo on SW1, so that's good!

Defiantly a smoother pedal feel and overall better running truck. I couldn't tell a difference WOT, but it's not as much of a snap as soon as the smoke clears.. which is probably from a smoother fueling table and may feel like less power but I don't think there is any less.

I don't see 5.12v14 in my folder, just v17, v18, v19 and a bunch of much older stuff.

The Jr, nor 5.09 has been out for that long. I just updated my dads truck from 5.09 to 5.12v18 and its a much better tune, and I think v19 is better yet.

5.09 was released in May of '09.

I didn't know there was a new tune either. I know what am doing tomorrow though!

I also bet the power feel is due to a smoother fuel curve. The old curve looked like hitting a wall it was so steep and fast when the turbo spooled.

Im running SW1, TQM stock, and TM 4 and POD @ 65 It does smoke some when i get into it a little bit but i kind of like it. I think i will stick with V17 for the time being.

I loaded SW2 and all other settings default into my buddies bone stock '06. That thing would smoke an intersection out.

Just went for a spin with the updated version (19). I like it A LOT. I'm running SW2, TQ2, TM 4.
Again, I agree with the better driveability and smoother throttle response. I know i'm running TM 4..but I didn't notice any change in smoke. As far as i could tell, it's as much as on the previous version (18) which is fine...I'm not hammering on it anyway.

I think i'll stick with this one for a while!

*GOD...why the H did I wait till 86K to get the Smarty JR?

I think smoke is hard to control on TM4.. I just don't run it anymore to know.

Yep, me too!

Problem now is that I originally got the JR because I thought I could make it work with the stock clutch. When the JR slipped the clutch, I replaced it with a Kevlar/Ceramic, and now I'm thinking maybe I should sell the JR and by a SR. After listening to the clip of a 3rd Gen running without the pilot injection event, I'm also thinking about EFI live (if they ever release it for the 04.5).

I'm running TM4 for the theoretical mileage gains. When you switched back to TM2 did you notice a loss in economy?

The difference is maybe .25 mpg for me.
