Cool 08 dpf delete kit questions

Just had my local mechanic install a H&S dpf/egr delete kit with XRT Pro programmer on my truck today, did not delete the egr cooler (not sure why not). Reason being, I was getting "exhaust filter full" message. Of course when i drove it home from the shop, it's like getting a new toy for Christmas, you have to try everything out. When i turned on the exhaust brake, i'm getting some unusual sounds that i hadn't been getting before. I know i probably won't describe the sound correct, but it sounds like to me that it's spooling the turbo up, like a whistling sound. Before this, the exhaust brake would give the typicall low rumble, and it still does, but now with the addition of a high pitch whistling sound. I just got this truck about 6 weeks ago, and i'm not really sure i've ever heard the turbo really whine anyway, so i don't know if the sound i'm hearing is from the turbo or not. Before this truck i had a '99 2500 with the 5.9, and the turbo sounds in that truck were really profound and loud. So this '08 is unbelievably quite to me anyway after driving the '99 for over 10 years. Is this noise coming from the exhaust brake normal after the delete kit? Another question, with the XRT pro, which power level will most likely give me the best fuel mileage. My driving consists of going back and forth to work, which is only about 12 miles away, so i never get over 60 mph at any time during a normal week. Then there's the occasional tractor, hay, hauling, maybe two to three times a month. Any help would be appreciated.

Talking Jim Saint George UT

I have same set up as you (S&H XRT deletes and EGR deletes) only I have a 2007 6.7. I get no turbo noise just a rumble when I use the engine brake. I travel from ST. George Ut. to Fresno California on 3/4 tank. on board computer reads 24.6 mpg. I'm on stock with deletes setting.

My 2008 had the full delete and when I ran the EB, especially with high idle it sounded like a jet engine. Pretty sure that noise is normal.

When actually using the EB to slow down it also made the lower rumble your are saying but when I had a window down there was a whistle too. Hope this helps.

Thanks guys, that answers my questions about the noise, now what about the power level settings for fuel mileage and the overdrive trans software from H&S.

I found that the lowest setting above off gave me the best economy, given I could keep my foot out of the peddle enough.

I thought about the Overdrive software but ended up selling that 2008 truck. For what you desribe I don't think you NEED it. Read the reviews on it, many people love the changes in the shifting, no more lugging the engine down in 4,5,6 when not in tow mode. If I had a 68RE truck still I would get it, just me though, because I hated when the tranny would lug the engine all the time.
