The rattle is very dependent on how well your truck runs. Mine has almost no gear rollover noise. But I did just replace my injectors and run my overhead. Even then I think the gear rollover is worse on some trucks and better on others. The floater plate rattle is not bad at all. If you have ever driven a truck with a bad throw out bearing it is very close to the same. You will see that some rattles that you have now were caused by the dual mass flywheel and when you convert they will go away.

Any more things I need to look for or replace while changing the clutch?

Is there anyone else who has the new SDD3250 dual friction? After seeing it i think it may be a better way to go.

The SB my Valair replaced was a disaster; however, it WAS installed by a shop that I am SURE was not sufficiently familiar enough with it.

The new 3250 should be almost silent with the pedal down, they use a small isolator between the floater and the flywheel. It was my first choice when I got my valair, but it is 300 bucks more.

Oh and read the instructions several times before you go to install the clutch. Check the fit of the clutch discs on the input shaft before you put the clutch together, take your time here. The better it fits the better it will shift. Get a new pivot ball and a new boot for the shifter. The orange boot that comes stock is very thin and if it has no holes now it will soon. Dorman number 614-002 is for a universal c/v boot that works very well.

The wife and I went to town today so i went by a diesel shop i had heard of and wanted to check out. I went in and told them i was getting ready to put a clutch in my truck and wanted to know a price. He asked current power level, will it go up, and will it tow. I told him the Jr for now but i will go up and i need to tow. He instantly said $2750. Said that was for everything including taxes. I asked him what clutch he was doing and he said the Southbend dual disk dual friction. Which is the one i have been leaning towards.

Anyone think the price is fair or to much?

I spent about a half hour talking about a couple other things and they seem to know their stuff. He said if i wanted to work out a plan for my Hp goal then i could come back at a couple of certain times and we could work things out.

must be the only independent diesel shop in town that works on Ram Cummins. that's full bore retail on clutch/flywheel/hydraulics package + lots of labor.

be sure to have the pilot bearing nose of tranny input shaft mic'd for specs especially if your's is a G56. they eat the ends of input shafts because of the DM vibration.

get the flywheel with the upgrade large diameter pilot shaft bearing with inner race.

drive into Tulsa and get more quotes from several diesel shops that work on Ram/Cummins.

if you have the NV5600, hire a couple not so bright big gorillas to do the lifting or get a HD tranny jack

Its the only shop that I know of in tulsa. My father in law is a mechanic for nissan and we are going to see if we could do it at the shop but if we can't i need to find a shop.

Looks like i'm going to have to have them do it. It would be over a month before we could get to it and by then we'll probably be in the middle of hay cutting.

New Clutch in

I picked my truck up today from the shop with the new clutch. I got the South Bend SDD3250 dual friction. This is my first dual disc and i didn't entirely know what to expect. As far as i could tell from the drive home it was great.

Pedal was a little heavier but i think its lighter than my dads 04 NV5600. Its only slightly harder to go into gears( also easier than dads 04). The engagement is the same if not slightly smoother than stock, which was sort of a surprise for me. I haven't towed yet but hopefully its still pretty smooth then. As far as noise goes, there's the growl in 5th under 1500rpms, a little growl in the lower but only at very low rpms, and outside the truck a hardly noticeable sound. With the pedal depressed there's no noise and you can kinda feel the engine running.

I asked them to throw the old clutch and flywheel in the bed so i could take it apart and check it out. I haven't got into it yet but it'll turn an inch or two back and forth. They said when they pulled the trans out there where about six pieces that had dropped out of the flywheel and were sitting at the bottom of the bell housing.

They told me to take it easy for about 200 miles. I've only put about 50 miles on it but so far its looking like i'm going to love this clutch.
