praise to the Diesel Guru's!!!

ok yall said it was my injectors that were causeing my bad fuel mileage...(14 mpg) but i was in denial. finally went down and had em pop tested and what do you know...! only 4 of the 6 orfices were spraying and they wernt attomizing, they were just spraying straight lines...

replaced all 6 injectors with RV nozzles, said to give me an extra 45 ponies. got the injectors in and had a pretty bad misfire. took everything back off and the 6th injector had a nick by the fuel tube and wasnt calibrated properly. replaced that injector and i still had a misfire at idle. took it back off again and replaced all of the fuel tubes. and the misfire is still there. by this time it was 9 pm (been there since 2)

can anyone give me any advice, it has a slight lope in the idel, but once you put it in gear it sounds fine, but if your cruising at a low speed and have your foot off the pedal, you can really hear it! what do yall think it could be?

im up in Mountain Home, Idaho and the shop was Mastertech Diesel Injection. they stood by their work, and stayed there with me... but think im gonna have to take it back down to Boise...

if anyone can give me some advice...

Sounds like maybe you just got a bad set all together. Scratched and mis-calibrated? I'd be asking for another set and maybe even have them tested right there in front of you.

I had a different set of injectors before my current ones that always "missed" or stumbled at idle (in neutral or park). When the time came to upgrade, I got injectors that are all matched together. My stumble went away, and it idles real nice!

I too would be watching the calibration, getting each one to match!

when they pulled the new ones out again, the guy took them back and pop tested them again... could it be my valves that are bad/ out of adjustment?

what if i leave it as it is? could that hurt my engine?

and last question is; im always to nice of a guy... and i feel guilty for making the guy do this...it is his fault right?

How many miles on the engine and do you have any gauges? That would answer some questions you have. And yes, if the injectors aren't right then its his problem, not yours. Do you think he feels bad for the time it's taking you to remove and install them? Probably not, but he should.

yes i have all 4 guages (egt, boost, tranny and fuel), and he has done all the work, i was there from 2-9 pm last night... after the second time i started helping them take the truck apart.

i only have one truck and didnt have the means to pull em out myself, and drive em down there... ive become quite familiar with the process now though LOL

Then how were all your gauge readings with the old injectors and was there any significant changes after the new injectors? And you didn't mention the trucks mileage either. Over 150,000 miles could use a valve adjustment but I've never heard of anyone having a mis from valves out of adjustment. Out of adjustment valves usually result in lower than normal power and loss of fuel mileage. So with that said, all I can go by is the fact that your old injectors were toast and that the new ones were scratched and out of calibration as well which would tell me (if I was in your shoes) that you want to make sure the injectors are perfect before you move on looking for another problem.....unless the gauges are telling you something else or if you have any codes also telling you something else to look at.

well i had a really shitty shop adjust my valves back in california, and not sure if they did it correctly... so think ill have him adjust the valves first... because of the fact that they did re check the injectors...

my EGT's are up a lil bit at idle, but not much... i figured because i had put in larger injectors in...

Well from Cummins specs you are allowed such a large variance in valve clearance it would be hard to rule that in your engine miss/stumble.

When does your miss fire occur? During idle once warm (only in park and neutral), all the time, etc?

Your lucky you didn't burn a hole in the pistons with a stream patttern!

AFAI am concerned any shop screw up should be handled by the shop until the problem is resolved. Your time is valuable too. At least you should think it is. Get all the "warranty" help you can get til its right.
