At one point I had my autometer gauge sensor in that port on the outlet pipe. Seen 250 deg pretty easily. So 300 deg rated hose should be fine.

That makes more sense. I always read it was a factory option but couldn't believe that an OEM would plumb something in like that. Still think its odd for dealer instructions to cut and add compression fittings for a rubber hose and to have it just hanging over the frame. Thats probably were my line blew out after riding on the frame for 290K miles.



Thanks for the link to the install directions, I see the bypass valve that was mentioned. That looks fine, I was talking about the compression fittings and hose doing a 180 when the outlet from the transmission is already on the correct side to go to the cooler. I wouldn't be happy to see that on a brand new truck.

When I first saw the plumbing on my 1993 W350, I thought it was pretty shabby also. I bought it new off the dealers lot, so I did a little research to verify that it was indeed installed as the manufacturer intended.
