Autometer Trans temp gauge help

I bought a Z series (#2640) trans temp gauge for My G360 just for fun really and I can't get it to read anything other than beyond high, as soon as it gets power it goes straight to high. I called autometer CS and the man said it has a bad/not enough ground but the sensor is already grounded through the threads. I ran a ground wire to the sensor that is connected to the engine block, the battery ground and the frame together and I still can't get it to read anything but High (100f-250f sweep). I checked and the power goes to I, sensor to S and ground is grounded. Have someone installed this gauge before and run into this issue? Thanks for any help.

I have the same gauge if your wires are hooked up correctly then a bad/poor ground could be the problem. I welded a bung in my PTO plate on the trans then soldered a ground wire to the sender figuring with thread sealant and a gasket the ground could be a problem. If I remember right you need to run a ground for the gauge too. If the wiring checks out I'd check the sending unit, unfortunately new does not mean good these days. I got a bad pickup on an Autometer tach and Autometer sent me a new one no questions asked so I have been happy with their customer service

Thank You for the response. I rolled a wire around the threads of the sender, solder it then run that one to the frame, then the gauge which in turn is connected to the cab, the block and the Negative post on the Battery. All my other gauges are connected to the same ground and work fine, the rest of the wiring is fine too only 3 wires really, I still think I may be missing something. The sensor is threaded to the transmission, I used gasket maker only so the metal is bonded to the transmission as well, I'm out of ideas.

If you have an ohm meter remove the sending unit put one probe on the body of the sending unit (ground) and one on the terminal and you should get a reading, if not bad sender. If you get a reading heat the sensor up and see if the ohms changes if not bad sender, if it changes could be a bad gauge.
